Cruel, pointless, impractical, and ultimately dangerous. The rooms in hospitals which will now be used to offload trans people are often required for clinical reasons ie to treat the immuno-compromised. This is the product of a country that has gone insane. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Trans people should use hospital spaces according to biological sex, NHS England says
New guidance says trans patients should be cared for on single-sex hospital wards or bays that align with their biological sex.

The report doesn't claim ADHD and autism are being over-diagnosed. That's media misinterpretation. From the report… "On the basis of evidence available to us we cannot conclude that over-diagnosis is occurring at scale, particularly given the gaps in population prevalence data and data reporting."

"We grant people different rights based on their genetic heritage and on which scrap of land they happened to be born on. That’s mad, isn’t it?" I just think, when debating immigration and so on, that we should try not to lose sight of the fact that "nationality" is a made up thing.

Why does nationality matter, anyway?
Deciding someone's legal rights based on a nebulous combination of birthplace and parentage is a bit weird

Taxing private jets at the same rate as regular flights, and ending the tax exemption on plane fuel could give the Chancellor an extra £2.7 bn. £2.7bn for our green transport networks! With other MPs I am calling on the Govt to end the tax breaks for wealthy private jet users. buff.ly/B65XyNf

found sunak's times article moving, but also genuinely frustrating. In particular, there is a bit about how he spent half his premiership trying to deport people to rwanda! Profoundly disagree with his assertion that part of why we're here is because the scheme wasnt allowed to work.

A lot of Labour people visibly believe that a Labour government gives off tolerance particles, and therefore sitting mute is fine and good. The reality is that it took a cross party, whole society effort to make us, as Sunak says, the most successful multiethnic, multifaith democracy in the world:

The usual moral “I’ll support anything as long as the rosette is red” voids in the replies to this. The reality is that Sunak did take real political damage in sacking Braverman and taking the whip from Anderson. Starmer and Burnham both useless on this.

Reform mired in scandal. A Labour government that literally cannot do the most basic bits of “are you a state?” i.e. arrest people who blockade infrastructure and intimidate the free press. Literally everyone in politics is optimising towards a Conservative victory other than Kemi Badenoch.

What a country we have become when the RNLI has to post things like this. Just over 1% of their total rescue work is in the Channel. Meanwhile Reform and Restore continue to badmouth the service.

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea.

But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse.

This is unacceptable.

The RNLI's people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they've never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025.

Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel - 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

2) and 3) are intimately linked, in that the BBC (the organisation that really matters in the modern environment) treats 'claims by rival parties' as the operating frame for how it covers everything. The failure from Labour and the Conservatives to say 'this stuff is bad' is really, really bad.

In June 1934 the British Union of Fascists - the Blackshirts - staged a rally at the Olympia in London. One protestor after another was singled out and beaten up by the crowd. Here's how Ronald Blythe described it.
Description of the BUF Olympia rally, at which a series of hecklers were violently attacked by Blackshirts. The sadism, Blythe writes, reached "an erotic intensity". Stanley Baldwin's private secretary expressed shock and dismay: "It was a deeply shocking scene for an Englishman to see in London."

I can’t put into words the fury this reporting fills me with. How more indignity must trans people be spoken be subjected to by our national broadcaster?
One patient, Sion Jewell, had been due to have surgery to remove their breasts and had packed to go to hospital, only to be told in a phone call 24 hours before it that it had been called off.
The 29-year-old from Anglesey, who is biologically female, had waited five years from their initial GP referrals and the surgery had been postponed twice already for mental health reasons.
The surgery would be irreversible and would mean, for example, that Jewell would not be able to breastfeed in future.
"When I found out I was heartbroken - I was distraught and completely disheartened," they said.
