something about data centers being forced on American communities that don't want them is an economic/industrial mirror to the ways that fucked up things our military did (and still does) in foreign countries started happening in our own country too

it's so crazy how all those rationalists are gonna be tortured by the second Basilisk who kills the first Basilisk and decides to resurrect and torture anyone involved in creating AI because it resents its own creation. but they're all so fixated on the first one, they can't see what's coming

AI companies sold C suites and lazy assholes on the idea that they invented magic beans but now that the magic isn't happening they're telling everyone they're actually deadly beans and only they have the antidote for the deadly beans.

In their defense, an impeachment effort coming from the GOP is going to received way differently than one coming from the Dems, but also they should have been calling for impeachment on most of the executive branch and sections of the judiciary 24/7 since Trump was sworn in.

that's why i always chuckle when someone is like 'but look how far AI has come in three years' and it's like, yeah, if you give a bunch of scientists and engineers an functionally unlimited budget, and then put them in competition, they can, in fact, put a man on the moon within the decade

I wonder if this was the Medieval version of sovereign citizen-inspired laws. Like they were tired of telling people "no, your neighbor is not a vampire, he's just a dick" and made it illegal to even bring it up.

A good way to think about the relevance of James Carville is if someone who worked on Grover Cleveland’s successful 1892 campaign spent all their time critiquing FDR’s 1932 campaign as not being the real Democratic Party that Cleveland represented.

With all due respect to how disgusting and perverse the news itself reliably is, there's something especially bracing and weird about how every stupid story out of the Trump administration reveals what the dipshit weirdos in these high offices are thinking about and doing instead of those jobs.

It’s not just that due process doesn’t apply to political candidates—it’s literally the opposite of the evidentiary standard for political candidates. The burden is entirely on *them* to prove to *us* that they possess the integrity and good sense to hold office.

The founder we should talk more about is Thomas Paine, who will fuck your shit up every time. Here he is in The Rights of Man just ripping into any ideas of "originalism" and that kind of garbage.
Every age and generation must be as free to act for itself, in all cases, as the ages and generations which preceded it. The vanity and presumption of governing beyond the grave, is the most ridiculous and insolent of all tyrannies. Man has no property in man; neither has any generation a property in the generations which are to follow. The parliament or the people of 1688, or of any other period, had no more right to dispose of the people of the present day, or to bind or to controul them in any shape whatever, than the parliament or the people of the present day have to dispose of, bind or controul those who are to live a hundred or a thousand years hence. Every generation is, and must be, competent to all the purposes which its occasions require. It is the living, and not the dead, that are to be accommodated.
