Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

As for the evidence, the author draws on all sorts of stuff in the book, mainly contemporary history and literature. But he introduces his thesis by referencing this figure, which purports to show politicisation and institutionalisation over time.

I’ve always thought it was too bad that the Game Theory Society gave ownership of GEB to Academic Press when it was founded as opposed to retaining ownership themselves. The fact that it and the JET belonged to commercial publishers the main reason we started Theoretical Economics.

7/ A high-level takeaway of this work is that the shape of the joint distribution of demand isn't sufficient to determine the gains from bundling -- the location matters too (i.e., are the "goods" commonly adopted or not?)

6/ - Simulations suggest modest gains from bundling EVs and heat pumps - Bundling does little for EV + rooftop solar subsidies - Data from an Indonesian CCT suggest that even though WTP is positively correlated in that setting, CCTs would be less cost-effective if unbundled!

5/ After establishing these results, I simulate the performance of bundled vs. unbundled subsidies in two settings: (1) Green durable goods in the US (2) Conditional cash transfers (which can be thought of as subsidy bundles when HHs face two or more conditions!)
