We started Resilient Energy Economies because we don't know enough about effective policies to support fossil fuel-reliant economies through a transition. Evaluating existing policies is a key way to change that. That's the topic of our webinar later today- join us! www.rff.org/events/webin...

Does the project involve any work that could be interpreted as promoting DEIA, climate change research, or non-compliant to any Presidential Executive Orders?

12/ Here’s a crazy part: Kao told the FBI that the company’s government work was of no real value. Its research under his stewardship resulted in products Navatek knew the military would never buy, former employees said. One example: This 3D-printed boat Collins is posing with 👇
Sen. Susan Collins, wearing a blue suit and red shirt, stands in front of a 3D-printed boat while holding a broken champagne bottle during a publicity event. The boat has the University of Maine logo and is emblazoned with the text "3Dirigo." Behind Collins are a group of applauding people, including a woman holding a Guinness World Records plaque.

10/ Of all the politicians Navatek courted, Collins was its most important patron. At times, Kao and his associates cut checks to Collins’ campaign within 24 hours of the annual defense spending bill, which funds military contracts, clearing a key Senate hurdle.

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵
Martin Kao, CEO of defense contractor Navatek, poses next to Sen. Susan Collins for a photo. Collins is holding a model of a boat in her hands. Behind them is a large sign with the Navatek logo.

A hand-drawn two-axis chart titled ‘KNOW YOUR BRANCHES OF PHILOSOPHY.’ The vertical axis runs from ‘STUFF THAT DOESN’T MATTER’ (bottom) to ‘STUFF THAT MATTERS’ (top). The horizontal axis runs from ‘CAREFUL REASONING’ (left) to ‘CONFUSING BULLSHIT’ (right). A dot labeled ‘CONTINENTAL’ sits in the upper-right quadrant (matters, but confusing bullshit). A dot labeled ‘ANALYTIC’ sits in the lower-left quadrant (careful reasoning, but doesn’t matter).
