The annual murder-gonk cull is upon us. I hate these things with a passion. Every year at my old job, we'd be instructed to destroy them on sight because they're a massive fire & cancer risk. I've ripped the heads off so many, I feel like some kind of elven serial killer. www.gov.uk/product-safe...

There are so many awful things about the anti-trans moral panic, but one of the *saddest* bits about it is the way that it's poisoned the water for feminism. I *hate* that I see suffragette colours and it immediately makes me suspicious, for example. 'Women-only space'. 'Red Tent'. Red flags now.😖

If early release can be altered so as to exempt homicide offences, it should be. Prisoners who have caused the gravest harm should be among the last to benefit from the overcrowding crisis. But carving out exceptions for individual prisoners in response to media campaigns is weak and unprincipled.

Roman shipwreck with 500 amphorae found off coast of Sicily
Discovery of 2,100-year-old vessel hailed as ‘one of the most important underwater archaeological discoveries of recent years’ A 2,100-year-old Roman shipwreck carrying about 500 amphorae has been discovered 3 miles off the coast of Mazara del Vallo in Sicily. Italy’s cultural heritage police, the Carabinieri, investigated the wreck with the help of divers and underwater cameras after receiving a tip-off from fishermen. The vessel was found at a depth of about 46 metres (151ft) and was carrying hundreds of amphorae – ancient two-handled ceramic jars with a narrow neck – thought to have been used mainly to transport wine.
