Here’s the political backdrop to Alberta’s independence referendum: 54% say Alberta is on the wrong track. 48% say the same about Canada. Albertans are actually more positive about the direction of Canada than their own province. abacusdata.ca/alberta-at-...

Alberta has a consequential referendum coming up in October. We hope to contribute to the public conversation by mapping the social media landscape before the vote. With no party or elected politician campaigning on separation, who are the voices driving the online conversation?

Lots can be said by folks who study British parties and the far right, but I'll add: the breakdown of norms and social expectations among (at least these) political elites re: ethical behaviour is really plain to see. (And, a really well-produced piece of journalism!)

Again, the lesson for Canada fron the tariffs - but also the EU, the Indo-Pacific and any other region looking to do business with the U.S. - is that the tools have been taken out, this will not end with Trump.
Picture of a tweet of Gavin Newsome saying he won’t necessarily rescind tariffs on Canada or other countries but says he will be nicer.

"Riding out Trump's term" means nearly 2.5 years of trade disruption. That's not a "disruption;" it's an adjustment period to a new normal because during it, innumerable tiny connections—commercial, professional, interpersonal—will be broken & reform with others not across that specific border.
