When I was growing up in Alberta, the province was the last one to adopt a mandatory seat belt law (1987). There was a loud minority opposed, arguing that wearing a seatbelt made you more likely to die in a car fire or drown if your car went into water. Experts said it was nonsense. Sound familiar?
