#OnThisDay Oct 6 1979: Amtrak is reorganized during system-wide budget cuts. The popular "Empire Builder" is cut back to 3 days a week, and it's the last day for the "North Coast Hiawatha," the venerable transcontinental train on the Northern Pacific/I-94 corridor with origins back to 1900.
