The fact that this is an equally good argument for blaming every one of those deaths on Osama Bin Laden should probably tell you how useful this sort of metric is.

Iran can win this war that way because Trump created the hostilities on conditions strategically so favorable to Iran (success or failure defined by Iran's ability to survive and control a small body of water next to them), but you can't win most wars eating losses at a 100-to-1 ratio.

Those of you eager to serve wealthy MLB owners as volunteer Pinkertons won’t like to read this, but as usual Joe Sheehan nails the real problem:
Joe Sheehan: This trade is a microcosm of the real problem MLB has faced for decades. It’s not about haves and have-nots, but wants and want-nots. The Dodgers, and teams like them, want to win more than teams like the Tigers do, so they go out and acquire the Tigers’ best pitcher. MLB has built an entire labor strategy and media campaign around demonizing the Dodgers, when in fact it’s the Tigers who are wrecking baseball. You have to be through the looking glass to think the sport’s problem is the team that’s trying to win rather than the team that’s trading Tarik Skubal while sitting 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot.

On this day in 1885, former General/President Ulysses S. Grant died at 63. His death came just days after he finished his memoir, which he wrote to give his family financial security after his death. “Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant” is still considered a masterful work. Image: Library of Congress.

In short, there are valuable lessons we can learn about drones & interceptors & magazine depth & mine-sweepers, etc. But the key lesson is: no amount of tactical excellence can salvage strategic incompetence. Who lost the Iran War? The American voter did, that damn fool. And he ought to feel it.

Listen, the gender piece of the Platner story is massive and right at its heart. It's also his undoing. But I think people also need to understand that the obsession with Israel/Palestine as a political issue is also a massive part of what blinded people here. People need to reckon with it.
