Today is a great day not to be on social media.

Gameplay of the original bounced off me a bit, but I'm always interested in Cole's work, and as you note, few games have such interesting framing.

It's perverse, and if anything, it's worse here than on Twitter.

Is this an argument for the quality of 24 or for its cultural relevance?

Good idea. 3: The Expanse, Generation Kill, The Clone Wars 2: Andor, Deadwood 1: The White Lotus

Closest thing to The Wire is arguably Andor, or could have been had they not been in a hurry to get to Rogue One.

Chernobyl was easily as good as anything on the list, but it's hard to directly compare a four episode show to things that went season after season.

It mostly bounced off me, but I did appreciate the self-awareness of the guy reading the comic and screaming out about how pretentious it was.

The great achievement of Breaking Bad was its depiction of the American Southwest (derogatory). Beyond that, and a very few stellar episodes, it was decidedly mid. Wouldn't be in my top 10, and not sure it would make my top 20.

seanmac31.bsky.social @seanmac31.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I'm quite partial to the opening three, but yes, you'll get a different flavor if you can move forward.

seanmac31.bsky.social @seanmac31.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I never really liked Breaking Bad at the time, beyond the accuracy of its depiction of the Southwest. Just an obviously inferior show to The Wire. But I do get that they are accounting for cultural relevance and staying power.

seanmac31.bsky.social @seanmac31.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I'm assuming they figured BSG would take the slot, and yes, it had greater cultural impact, but still an unacceptable decision.

The Expanse.

I think the episode to episode quality of Louie was significantly higher, though obviously it didn't have the kind cultural impact that the top CS skits did.

The fact that this is an equally good argument for blaming every one of those deaths on Osama Bin Laden should probably tell you how useful this sort of metric is.

I love the opening scene of the movie Glory. It’s really the only moment in the film that covers Robert Gould Shaw’s military career prior to accepting the colonelcy of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment...

9/11 was the most important turning point in American society and culture since 1917. Part of what has gotten us here--ie, at Fascism--is treating History as a consumer good.
