When MAGA sends its candidates, they're not sending the best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

The NYT dropped 5 major Senate polls this morning — and they tell you exactly why the GOP is freaking out about the Senate. Alaska: Peltola up 50/43 Texas: Talarico up 51/45 Ohio: Brown up 49/46 Kansas: a 45/45 tie Iowa: Hinson up 48/47.

I really love this chart. I'm guess that the correlation here (.85) is about as big as you would find for any other variable. Also, a less serious scholar than @tesler.bsky.social (namely me) would have made a crude Freudian reference to the slope of the line.
Chart shows a close positive relationship between Trump's 2024 vote and Google searches for testosterone boosters.

If you wanted to design a policy to hurt Trump voters in particular, a diesel fuel price increase would be very effective. Three states - WY, ND, AK - even use more diesel than gasoline. Details by state; not all use is paid for by residents of course: www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet...
Chart showing diesel usage per person in 2024 by state. At the top, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Alaska are at about 20 barrels per person for the year. The only blue states near the top of the chart are Maine and New Mexico. At the bottom is California, Florida, Delaware, Michigan, Maryland, and New Jersey, which all use about 2.5 barrels per person.

@daveweigel.bsky.social is right. The big pitch of the establishment, NYT, Yglesias, etc is that they need the keys to the car because they know how to win (and in the Trump era, winning is existential). But nobody really believes that anymore after 10 years of Trumpism

I keep saying it; the "Dem establishment" lost its 2021-2024 credibility not just because of Gaza but because it lost to Trump again. Sanders and Zohran rushed into the gap explaining that they lost bc they abandoned working people.

Generally speaking, polls have shown the Democratic Party's problem is not being seen as too woke, but weak and ineffective. Judging by tonight's primary results, Democratic Primary voters are intent on fixing this www.gelliottmorris.com/p/new-poll-d...

New poll: Democrats' real problem isn't being too liberal — it's being seen as too weak
Americans, including swing voters, see the Republican Party as 20 points more extreme than Democrats — and the Democrats as weak and ineffective. So why would the *Democrats* moderate?

In chemistry, a supersaturated solution is one where you've kept adding a solute to a liquid beyond where the liquid can dissolve everything. All it takes is a nucleation site / seed crystal for the solution to rapidly (sometimes violently) crystalize. Unrelatedly, the US has more guns than people.

Jake and I have been writing for the past year that the “moderate” vs “progressive“ policy debate is largely missing the point (no empirical evidence of effects of ideology on votes). Now Jentleson admits voters don’t think in these terms and the alpha on issue positioning is mostly gone. That’s a W

This has to be the funniest question AND response I've ever seen in a poll. Less than half of Republican men think they could beat Trump in a fight. What a bunch of pathetic losers.
Democratic women are more likely than Republican men to say they could win a fight with Donald Trump
Who do you think would win in a physical fight between you and Donald Trump? (%)

Bar chart shows the following think they would win in a fight vs Trump

Dem men: 82%
Dem women: 71%
Independent men; 69%
Independent women: 46%
Republican men: 46%
Republican women: 19%

Photo I found from my first LA apartment 20 years ago. Everything was going digital, people were starting to ditch their CD collections. I still loved having music physically represented in my space, but space was tight. So I made CD wallpaper; you could open each case to play albums from the wall.
CDs in jewel cases mounted like tiles on a staircase wall in an extremely 1970s Los Feliz townhouse where I lived in 2006.
