This enrages me so deeply I don't know what to say. Being able to control your body is *the* most basic freedom, one which is necessary for the exercise of all other freedoms possible in a liberal democratic society

Have seen some new work demonstrating this. For instance, this paper links loneliness to AfD voting: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... I've also seen work in progress that loneliness predicts lower political trust, stronger populist attitudes, and greater likelihood of Trump vote.

There is a reassuring fantasy among those who have critiques of unfettered left-wing governance that right agrees with these critiques and will temper the left when in power. But the contemporary right isnt that, it's an apocalyptic doomsday cult that lives in an alternate reality.

If you just substitute the words 'working age' for 'fighting age', suddenly the arrival of youngish men and women doesn't sound threatening. Rather, it sounds like exactly what we need for an ageing population.

If Democrats think winning back congress this year and the presidency in 2028 is enough, they are sorely mistaken. We'll be right back where we're at in 2032 with an even more fascist and white supremacist Republican party. It's not enough to win power.

Had a brief conversation with a ‘Britain is full’ racist. Sigh. Just one little bit of logic. If you have an ageing population, and at the same time constant population numbers, can you see what that does to working-age numbers? It’s not difficult if you have the slightest grasp of mathematics.

APSR abstract for "Democratic Accountability with Citizen Coproduction," by Jie Ma, Keith E. Schnakenberg, and Ian R. Turner, Modeling policies requiring citizen coproduction, the authors show low coproduction muddies voters' attribution of blame, and incumbents anticipate this by sometimes avoiding reforms when more likely to succeed. This is a pretty good example of what my ERC project, PoPPiE, is about. Much political theory implicitly teaches us that we, as individuals, should have a single abstract procedural ideology that applies across contexts. But why should we? The world is complex and our response to it should be too.

The problem with this entire “talking across difference” approach to politics is that it assumes a shared consensus about democracy that no longer exists b/w the 2 main 🇺🇸 political parties. You don’t need to have lunch with people who don’t believe in free elections, equal rights, & the rule of law.

The Green Party's motion today is anti-Jewish, anti-Palestinian, and anti-peace. It is morally wrong. It is politically wrong. It must be consequential. Regardless of what one thinks about Israel or Netanyahu, a one-state solution (whether Jewish or Palestinian) is racist, and it is impractical.

This is good
Abstract
As fascist politics intensify in the United States and globally, sociology faces renewed questions about how to theorize the fraught relationship between racism, capitalism, empire, and democracy. In this article, we argue that the Black Radical Tradition (BRT) offers sociology a powerful analytic for understanding fascism not as a historical aberration but as a recurring political expression of racial capitalism. Drawing primarily on a close reading of Cedric Robinson’s Black Marxism: The Making of the Black Radical Tradition, we examine the epistemological, political, and world-making dimensions of the BRT and trace how Black radical thinkers theorized fascism within the longer history of racial capitalism. We then consider what deeper engagement the BRT might offer the sociology of race and ethnicity, particularly through transnational and historical relational analyses, as well as expanded attention to consciousness, culture, and collective liberation in moments of societal crisis.
