Permanent political theory jobs at a fantastic university! Interesting, at least to me, that academic salaries seem to be notably higher in Ireland than in England.

Interesting study, showing 'synthetic samples' are wildly inaccurate. Though, to be honest, I've always been a bit confused about what a synthetic poll would even be as an epistemological object. They seem like the polling equivalent of NFTs.

As expected the right-wing papers hammer Burnham on ending the pensions triple lock: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article.... But, it feels like the first time in a long time (since 2008?) that Labour is setting the terms of the public debate, directing it onto terrain where it is comfortable fighting.

I would add to this that the whole point of an academic publications is that they are supposed to be records of things you have learned through careful scholarship. If they contain non-existent references, they are a misrepresentation of what is assumed to be the process behind the product.

The BBC are consistently referring to Danny Tommo as an "anti-migrant activist". Bizarre how they would invent a new, more legitimising term (anti-migrant activist is not a commonly used term) rather than describe his politics. Even the Telegraph refers to him as a far-right activist.

The image shows the cover of the book on the right, with a text description of the book and two testimonials on the left on a white background. Under the description are details of the launch offer in white text on a red background.

The book cover consists of a dark blue square panel in the top half with the title of the book, “Democracy, Participation and Public Administration: A Systems Approach” in white text, and the author name, “Rikki Dean” in white text. The dark blue panel is semi-transparent and overlaid onto the Kandinsky painting “A Delicate Tension”, which fills the entire cover. In the bottom right corner is the Bristol University Press Logo, a capital B in a black circle.

The description of the text reads, “The democratic state is unravelling. Authoritarians exploit its deficits to disguise attacks on democracy as democratic renewal, while Silicon Valley searches for ways to replace public service with private technology. Countering these threats to democratic governance requires thinking administratively about democracy and democratically about administration.

This book develops a novel democratic systems theory that puts public administration at the heart of democracy. The new approach is then applied to the project of democratic innovation, exploring the potential of public participation and digital technologies to democratise the administrative state. It is essential reading for defending democracy in an age of resurgent authoritarianism, providing both theoretical innovation and practical pathways towards a more democratic future.”

Adding the testomonials exceeds the maximum length of the alt text box, but they can be machine read on the book website: https://bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/democracy-participation-and-public-administration.

The details of the launch offer, are “50% off paperback price for first 20 reposters. Or read online / download open access”

This got me wondering how names in international geography do change. Like how did German Sea become North Sea? Wikipedia says German Sea fell out of use due to anti-German sentiment during WW1. But how? Was it decreed or some informal collective norm? And why do the Germans also call it Nordsee?
