Was listening to video it had a track from Native Echo. As far I can tell it computer generated or AI. Everything seems artificial cover art and mix of genres on main profile. Nothing about original artist seems to have come from nowhere. It reminded me of another song which had similar patterns.

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough. First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation; Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers; Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

Been thinking about this bit of the von der Leyden speech since yesterday. I think she may well be right. Or at least, she isn’t obviously wrong despite some of the sneering from US tech types. ec.europa.eu/commission/p...
By limiting the risks of AI, we can maximise the benefits. We have already done a lot. On gigafactories and tech sovereignty, for example. But the next leg of this race is not only about frontier models. Just as was the case with the printing press in times gone by. It was invented by a German inventor, but was mastered and applied across Western Europe.

We do not need to be the ones who develop the frontier technology to be the ones who draw the greatest value from it. The key is creating the value that AI has not yet delivered. Moving AI from the screen to the real economy and society. On the factory floor. On the hospital ward. In precision agriculture. In our energy grids. Smart grids. For autonomous driving. For defence.

This is where the real value is hidden. And it is where Europe has big advantages. We have world-class industries that sit on the highest-quality data. These data are a precious European treasure. They are what can power tailor-made industrial AI models.

One of the key problems with AI is that the AI bros and their behemoth companies have absolutely no governance or guardrails. It's not that the AI is conscious or going rogue or whatever. It's that it's run by feckless arseholes. www.ft.com/content/2c34...

NEW Why holding a placard is a terrorist act, while causing disruption in a balaclava is not The mess caused by ministers and the police not taking terrorism law seriously By me at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...

Recent events in England now reveal the practical difference between terrorists and protesters. It would seem that terrorists peacefully hold placards and get immediately arrested, while protesters wear black uniforms and balaclavas and disrupt infrastructure and do not get arrested.

How did we get into this mess? How have we placed ourselves in the position where terrorism legislation is used to detain and prosecute peaceful protesters, while those adopting the terror tactics of private armies seem to be free to do as they wish?

The reason is that for some time British politicians have not taken terrorism legislation seriously, and that ministers have got into the habit of misusing terror laws for easy targets.

The title above the first two panels reads, "Dog Toys".
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, holding a bone shaped dog toy. She says, "Look!"
The second panel shows a dog wagging its tail. There is a speech bubble leading back to Sarah saying "It squeaks!"
The title above the last two panels reads, "Cat Toys".
In panel three we see Sarah again. She says "Come, child."
Panel four shows a cat raising its paws in glee. We see Sarah's hands holding cat nip. We see a speech bubble leading back to Sarah saying "It is time to do drugs".
