I ran an acorn foraging workshop today for a colleague’s food history class! Knowing some students would inevitably come face to face with their first acorn weevil while cracking nuts, I made a few little pins as prizes for weevil-finding 🐛

I love when someone I already didn’t like or care about gets cancelled. I get to go on socials and post things like “he has always sucked” or “can’t believe no one figured this out until now - I’ve always hated him.” Being able to make everything about me is a core part of my personality.

This is set up for laughs, but it’s actually one of the best demonstrations I’ve seen of how being capable of producing convincing sounding language and understanding meaning are two completely different things. A chatbot does not understand you, it just has automated responses based on your words.

Mitchell MM-100

Here's a picture of Dolly Parton (RIP) on stage during the ceremonies for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. She's wearing a black leather suit that's got small gold chains and red & white rhinestones all over it. Her guitar, a Mitchell MM-100, is also covered in rhinestones.

The MM-100 is a 3/4 scale Strat-shaped electric guitar with two humbuckers. They're controlled by a volume knob, a tone knob, and a 3-way blade switch. The strings go through the body, over the Les Paul-style bridge, over the 24-fret neck, and stop at a 3/3 split headstock.

In a fair system, new tech would empower workers. Greater productivity would translate to fewer working hours or higher pay. But in our system, greater productivity from tech only ever benefits capital, never the workers. Workers generate more profit for owners and never see any benefits.
