Avi Lewis @avilewis.ca · 14/09/2026Canada has binding regulations on everything from guns to butter. And none for AI. Are we going to trust people like Elon Musk & Sam Altman to regulate themselves? Or is our government going to stop cheerleading & start regulating in the public interest? It’s literally what government is for.Financial Times@financialtimes.comRivals Altman and Musk rally behind Dario Amodei’s call for an AI slowdown ft.trib.al/Q4kiCJJft.trib.alRivals Altman and Musk rally behind Dario Amodei’s call for an AI slowdownWarring tech bosses unite behind warnings that humans could lose control of the technology5:41 PM · Sep 14, 2026 21407150

Policy Vibe · by NoMAGA @policyvibe.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caThe missing piece is enforcement: clear liability, independent oversight, and penalties that make safety rules more than voluntary promises from CEOs. 050

progsrock @progsrock.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caWell Avi, I'm glad guns are regulated in Canada! But we can still do better in that regard. As for AI and (yes data centres) I am in 100% agreement that we need to do whatever we possibly can do to regulate them. Tougher though to accomplish when AI companies are headquartered in America and China? 010
Aster Vérité @aster-verite.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caBen Collins thinks the AI industries' calls for a pause is a sham. Soon the tech lords will offer an "honorable compromise" Just walk away. Give them our data and infrastructure, and they’ll spare the wasteland. Lie back, don't resist. #GoTeam #ApocalypseAster Vérité@aster-verite.bsky.socialDemanding a cinematic, sci-fi apocalypse from AI alarmists completely misses the mark. The event horizon won't be AI launching nukes. It'll be a tool with no moral horizon escaping a sandbox & breaking a single, critical pillar of our infrastructure. Human psychology will accomplish the rest. 010
Anthony Butler @anthonydrawsgood.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caWe absolutely need strong regulations on tech. The fact that these companies can operate with impunity because legislative bodies haven't caught up with them is dangerous! 010

Dodecahedron @dodechedrononon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caIt would be vastly more compelling if you said what kind of regulations we should have. The G of C already uses AI, businesses are using it, it's here... so the genie is out of the bottle. So what do we regulate... less salt in your AI, smaller clips? People don't know, don't expect them to. 000

dtann.bsky.social @dtann.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.ca1. There should be regulations on the industry. 2. The AI CEOs are so funny because they are all like we’ve created a runaway death machine and some should do something about it. Which they all easily could do something about it but just don’t. The whole industry is smoke and mirrors 010
Trevor 🇨🇦 @trevorsideas.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caWe 100% need regulations on "AI" and have for a long time for the real problems it's creating today from loss of critical thinking, enshitification of everything, to outright theft. But as with many things we say "the world has changed" as an excuse to pursue money and ignore everything else. 020
Scott Hodgins @have-a-great-day.bsky.social · 14/09/2026↪ Replying to @avilewis.caI agree that AI desperately needs regulation, but if we can’t regulate Netflix to offer more CanCon, odds are slim any regulations we put on the US AI giants will be implemented. They‘d sooner block access to Canadian IP addresses and get Uncle Sam to yell at us some more. 010
