People think gerontocracy is an institutional party thing but like gerrymandering and polarization generally means that the vast majority of seats are uncompetitive and for whatever reason only 75 year old people know how to vote on days other than the 1st Tuesday in November

AIPAC is bad for a whole host of reasons but I get annoyed by people who blame it for politicians support of Israel. The much more obvious explanation is that the median primary voter is 150 years old and thinks that Egypt still is one more war away from wiping Israel off the face of the map.

This guy got a law degree from Harvard and became a White House Fellow reporting to Egil Fucking Krogh (head of the Plumbers). After Watergate he spent an entire lifetime in the insurance industry before deciding to redeem Richard Nixon's legacy, publishing a hackish book with (of course) Regnery

Please, for the love of God, can the media stop calling random cranks who write fan fiction about their personal heroes in the past "historians."
Geoff Shepard, a former Nixon aide turned Watergate historian and revisionist, recently gave a two-hour presentation at Justice Department headquarters that laid out his theory that the deep state took Nixon down. The title of his 78-page slide deck: “Watergate As Lawfare.”

The sort of world view that Hegseth stands for is an inherently unstable equilibrium, a doomed enterprise. It's unable to cope with what even modest levels of abstract reasoning built on basic education can pull off, let alone vastly more powerful social systems.

OMB has not repeatedly proposed a 55%+ cut to NSF because of 'woke' research—even if you eliminated all of the grants flagged in the Cruz report, you wouldn't scratch 10% of the budget. It is because NSF heavily funds universities.

Congratulations to the GREAT Boeing Company for producing a plane, the 737 Max, that was able to withstand G Forces and Strain far beyond what it was designed and expected to do. It was an amazing show of precise and powerful structural planning and design. It is about time that The Boeing Company, which builds, by far, the finest commercial airliners in the sky, was given credit for this airplane’s incredible “genius!” To Kelly Ortberg, and all of his officers and associates at Boeing, congratulations on a job well done!!! Sounds great.
According to experts I interviewed, the internet is about to get more frustrating. These agents may cause a cascading chain of problems that shake the foundations of digital infrastructure. Chances are good that you're about to live through an era of online chaos.
The internet was built for humans with limited time and patience. AIs don't have those restraints. You'll probably have to fight with robots over concert tickets and booking appointments. Small businesses could drown in machine-made pestering. AIs don't look at ads, and websites that rely on them are already crumbling. You'll be buried in endless loops of proving you're human. And if you use these AI tools, some may betray you.

Worth emphasizing that there are several layers of nuts here. If Smith had gone to an NBA game in Atlanta, that wouldn’t indicate he’d met with Willis. (Why would anyone go to the trouble, rather than just having a phone call?) And if he had met with Willis… that wouldn’t be any sort of scandal.
