What competitive authoritarianism looks like - officials in government trying to tilt the playing field against the opposition party or failing to restrain those in power from doing so. (We're not there yet, but this is what it looks like.)

Actually, I think Donald Trump should treat this even MORE seriously. He should take time next week to deliver a big primetime address about this. Sit us down in the Oval Office and let us know why Richard Nixon was treated improperly. I want to hear "Watergate was a Witch Hunt" from Trump.

the thing about stuff like this is that five biggest changes in american politics have all been partisan projects The Constitution, the Jacksonian Revolution, Reconstruction, the New Deal, and Civil Rights were all explicitly partisan projects.

Diesel would still be $6.20/gal today (up from $3.66/gal a year ago) without the Ohio diesel tax, and gas would be 3.84/gal, up from $2.98/gal from a year ago. This is a GOP gimmick that will take money away from other programs resulting in negative impacts on Ohioans.

Has anyone written about or seen analysis of how a diesel export ban would not reduce consumer prices in the United States *unless* paired with direct price controls? I've seen analysis about how it wouldn't create much relief, but nothing about how the market price would have to be constrained.

Amazing photo but the headline here is, imo, needlessly indirect, and it surprises me that Senator Schmitt, the person responsible for the embarrassing ”Hawks-Hawkeyes mix-up,” isn’t mentioned by name in the headline.
