I've long since figured that this admin was doomed, though it would do massive damage on the way down. None of these idiots know how to *build* institutions, which you kinda need to if you want a lasting autocracy. They can only tear down and destroy.

I do think part of the vibecession is the fact that a LOT of businesses don't currently run as well as they should because the cost of labor is too high for instance, I spent almost an hour in line at the pharmacy tonight, after being unable to get them on the phone.

Of all the dumbfuck FP decisions Israel has made, letting its occupation force goons kill US citizens is possibly the dumbest. We should, by the way, extract some extraditions for this shit. We can--a lot more than 9 additional Israelis will be taken by the war if the US cuts them off from trade.

Tonight, 47 Senators supported my resolution to get accountability for the 9 Americans killed on the West Bank & for Palestinians who face injustices daily. That's more support than we've ever had in this fight. Republicans blocked us, but we won't stop until we get justice.

After lucking out with Maduro you could tell Trump expected all of his adventures to turn out like that. If he had also gotten lucky with Iran, he would have moved on to the next thing - Greenland, Cuba, etc. The only way this was ever going to end was with him fucking up, which he did pretty fast

Yup! There's a reason I've reposted this graph repeatedly since January of 2025. It was not a particularly difficult call
How Will This Go!

A meter with "Trump Autocracy" on the left side and "Big Pile Of Shit" on the right side. The dial slightly but surely ticks right, toward "Big Pile Of Shit"

I mean we saw this in the first term where people were doing “oh he would have won if not for COVID” - COVID was good for incumbents everywhere else! The issue wasn’t COVID, it was the admin response to COVID, which was the entirely natural result of how Trump operates

Yup, absolutely. I think it’s wrong to treat the Iran War as simply one bad error that happened to the Trump Admin rather than the entirely logical consequence of the way it operates. If it wasn’t Iran, it would almost certainly have been something else

FWIW, I think a fuckup on this scale in time to wreck them electorally was *almost* inevitable from Day 1, precisely because this is the Special Birthday Boy presidency in which there are almost no limits on Trump's madness and every proposed policy disaster has a real shot at going all the way.

It is amazing, and sobering, to realize that had Trump not chosen to start this war for no good reason and against the advice of many of his senior ppl, Trump and the GOP would probably be doing... Ok. Not awesome, maybe losing the house, but ok.

This is something I've been reading extensively about for a class in the context of energy and power optimization. Using old optimal solutions to interpolate new solutions in different but not entirely dissimilar contexts--with deep neural networks, of course.

This is a common and normal tech industry practice, and it should be forbidden by law. This gives founders a near-unlimited license to screw investors in pursuit of self-serving or insane goals.

This "founder LLC" setup seems particularly corrosive. In ordinary supervoting share structures, a split between supervoters can at least lead to the common stockholders getting a say on contentious issues — but here they're always voting their shares as a bloc, so ordinary votes become irrelevant.
Under this arrangement, a majority vote of the seven co-founders will direct a single share of Class F stock that amounts to 50.1% of the total voting power over key corporate matters, including the election of some board directors and other matters submitted to investors.

I could make a version of this that I could explain to at least 5 US Senators, if they bothered to listen. Just make a table of n vs n^3 and explain that this is the *easy* mode for computing basic operations management problems (convex optimization). Then talk about little everyday frictions.

you're trying to update your priors in an infinite hypothesis space where everything is maximally distinguishable, and you have a whole bunch of distributions over distributions which stand for things you have not observed about the world. you observe something. by definition it was not informative.
