Who is this book for? Journalists? It is for the public, to have summarised in one place, the story of an influential lobby group with the context, analysis and moral judgment that our gallery reporters have no incentive to provide.

Genuinely a bit amazed by how staggeringly tone deaf this is. Like I don't expect the Government to fully acknowledge the scope of the situation they've created, but this is still pretty out there. Youth unemployment is at 30-year high, and he's all like "just find a job"

Think many of us think this way.
Tim Curry: I don't fear death. I try to avoid it, I think we all do, but I suspect that in the end, I will welcome it. I think it may be very comforting to go bye-bye, and I want to earn it.

Tim Curry was like a living cartoon character, putting total commitment into every role he ever did no matter how absurd. Nigel Thornberry could have been just another dim-witted character but Tim Curry's performance elevates it to another level.

Say what you will re Ardern but once we had a PM who bothered to go above and beyond, who personally answered questions from the public, who remembered detail across all portfolios. The contrast between this level of comms and now is night and day in such a bad way - mediocrity looks terrible on us.
jacindaardern This is a message for the kids of New Zealand. I've been asked by lots of you whether the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny are an essential service (I even got asked in a press conference today!) I have good news, the are! But because we're all in isolation at the moment, the Easter Bunny might not make it to every house this year (they probably have to look after their own Bunny family too). So just in case, I'm wondering if you'll help me create an Easter egg hunt for all the children in your neighbourhood? You can draw your own Easter egg, or you can colour in the one that some of my clever friends helped to make. All you have to do is colour it in or decorate it, and pop it in your window for other kids to find. I'd also love to see your designs. If you email them to
primeminister@parliament.govt.nz, or share them on social media using the hashtag #NZEggHunt, I'll pop a few of them here and on Facebook over the Easter weekend. Have fun everyone! P.S you can print a copy of this colouring sheet over on my Facebook page.Q: Will there be a Press Conference today?

Jacinda Ardern
1.30pm and also I'll do one at 3pm

Men's complaints today: we are horribly oppressed because a woman translated Homer. Women's complaints: see Heidi Blake's utterly horrific report on the Tate brothers' long campaign of rape, violent physical and psychological abuse, and trafficking of, apparently, hundreds of women.
In the political landscape that Tate helped create, women hold an increasingly precarious position. These days, the far-right podcaster Nick Fuentes will openly say that women should be kept in “breeding gulags,” and the ultra-popular Joe Rogan will host a just-asking-questions discussion about whether the feminist revolution was a huge mistake. Influential Christian leaders are calling to repeal women’s suffrage. A man was elected President after being held liable for sexual assault.

Even in this milieu, Tate’s violent rhetoric stands out. “I saw a woman crossing the road today but I just kept my foot down,” he posted after Trump’s reëlection. “Right of way? You no longer have rights.” His influence is being felt around the world. Last year, a seventeen-year-old boy in New Jersey allegedly drove his car into two teen-age girls, killing them both, after joking on a live stream about women getting raped by Tate. In Britain, a man who had recently watched about ten of Tate’s videos raped his ex-girlfriend and murdered her, her mother, and her sister using a crossbow. British police have warned that Tate’s teachings are radicalizing young men in a “terrifying” manner and declared that violence against women is a national emergency.

An infuriating analysis from @tfwelch.com of how the Budget reflects transport priorities. 3/4 of new capital spending to roading, and most of that to *one road*. Zero new investment in walking and cycling. Fuel excise relief signalled, but not PT fare relief. theconversation.com/as-global-fu...

As global fuel risk rises, NZ Budget 2026 puts roads first – again
Budget 2026 increases road spending – while offering limited support for public transport, emissions cuts and climate resilience.

I've never seen "running government like a business is bad, actually" illustrated as plainly and clearly as this:
Screenshot of a post from weaselle from Jun 18, 2024:

I've said it before and i'll say it again: what we want is for these things to be run like a HOUSEHOLD... a home. A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different.

A business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it's last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy.

A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business.

We don't want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.
