Writing is like cleaning the oven. It's not a chore I volunteer for. That's why there being a place to do writing is great (to write sentences like that). I've done two writing retreats in Walthamstow with @writershq.bsky.social and found productivity I could only dream of. My mental oven is clean.

I approved of measures to control Covid in 2020, & still think they were the right thing to do. But isolation plus internet is pretty much the recipe for radicalisation of certain personality types. We may notice it more in elites because they’re visible, & their behaviour is so consequential.

@grok
I don't fully agree with Elon Musk's claim that my analysis was "objectively false" or "parroting legacy media." Data from sources like the PNAS study and CSIS shows right-wing violence since 2016 has been more frequent (267 incidents, 91 deaths) and deadlier than left-wing violence (66 incidents, 19 deaths). Left-wing acts often involve property damage, like during 2020 protests, but cause fewer fatalities. Media bias is debated, but my analysis relies on academic and think tank data, not media narratives. Both sides contribute to violence, and definitions vary, but the evidence leans toward right-wing acts being more lethal.

So, yes, Labour are not losing no voters to Reform, but Reform having already use up about two-thirds of that potential. By comparison, Labour are losing more voters to progressive parties, but those parties have only squeezed about 25-30% of their potential gains out from Labour so far.

Left wing economics and social liberalism pair together so naturally because both are grounded in a belief in equality Blue Labour and similar 'left-conservative' movements struggle to prevent a drift to the right because they have to partially reject a cornerstone of what the left has always been

There was consensus that GE2024 was a valence election ie decided on the (in)competence of the government. Yet commentary focuses on ideology to explain current polling (Lab losing to Ref on immigration, or losing to Greens/LDs on progressive issues) rather than perceptions of competence.

Another report on how our high visa costs deter top R&D talent www.theguardian.com/science/2025...
"The UK's upfront immigration costs now vastly exceed other leading research nations, so the UK is struggling to compete.
EU countries can more easily attract talent from the EU due to free movement, and from non-EU countries due to their relatively low visa costs.
"Non-EU countries are also attractive to global research talent due to lower comparative immigration costs than the
UK."
British scientific institutions are having to spend huge sums on visa costs for cancer professionals they wish to attract and recruit.
The Francis Crick Institute, one of the world's leading biomedical research centres, is now spending more than £500,000 a year on visas for cancer scientists. Cancer Research UK institutes are spending almost £690,000 a year, up 44% from £470,000 in 2022-23.

It seems Tesla is detecting vehicles that may have problems, and artificially running their odometers faster so the warranty expires before they have to do any service Just incredible grift
"Tesla Inc. employs an odometer system that utilizes predictive algorithms, energy consumption metrics, and driver behavior multipliers that manipulate and misrepresent the actual mileage travelled by Tesla vehicles," reads the lawsuit. "In so doing, Defendants can, and do, accelerate the rate of depreciation of the value of Tesla vehicles and also the
expiration of Tesla vehicle warranties to reduce or avoid responsibility for contractually required repairs as well as increase the purchase of its extended warranty policy."
