I'm in a large Facebook parenting group. Saw a recent post from someone complaining they'd been invited to a 'get to know the parents' brunch for their child's Reception class. Literally every comment was people urging them to refuse to go. (The restaurant was expensive, which I agree is an issue).

I keep seeing various posts in parenting groups asking for 'tips for summer' or 'how to keep the kids entertained over the summer' or 'cheap things to do over the summer'. And the answer is always - people. Invite your kids' friends over for a playdate. Offer free babysitting to working parents.

One of my kids' friends is being raised by a single mum, who got a new job last year and is relying on Granny for childcare. We have a running thing where the kid comes to ours for a day in the holidays to give Granny a break. It's glorious. The kid is very easy and gets on with both my two.
