If the Tory’s stand for anything, it’s gumming up the property market and defending unearned income from that inflated market.

NEW - Kemi Badeoch says there will be no inheritance tax to pay ever on a family home. Interested to know how this affects the housing market. Asset-rich pensioners just got a huge (extra) incentive not to downsize.

Long tribute from Kemi Badenoch in her conference speech to Jeffrey Archer, complete with round of applause. The world is a "less colourful" place without him, she says, which is one way to describe a serial fraudster, fantasist and liar who wrecked several lives in the process.

Trump historically wore Brioni, an Italian luxury company that makes suits in Italy. Here he flashes a Jos. A Bank label, a US company that long offshored its production to China and Bangladesh. They carry an associated label called Joseph Abboud, which is made in US. Curious he didn't choose that.
Donald Trump in a navy suit. He's opening the jacket, so you can see the label. A close up of the suit label says Jos. A. Bank.

Reform MP raises concerns about second homes – then buys one for £800,000
Sarah Pochin bought Anglesey property two days after writing to minister about impact of second home ownership on rural communities A Reform UK MP bought an £800,000 second home on a picturesque Welsh island two days after raising concerns in parliament about the impact of second homes on rural communities. Sarah Pochin completed the purchase of a Grade-II listed property on the southern coast of Anglesey (Ynys Môn). Continue reading...

After talking about the triple lock - which Prosper UK want to abolish - there is a show of hands in the room about who thinks it should be scrapped. About 90% think it should. And it’s fair to say a reasonable proportion of people here are beneficiaries of the triple lock.

It’s an obvious point but one worth making: both Davidson and Street are very good communicators and politicians who have won elections for the Tories in unpromising areas…. but are having to pressure from the sidelines rather than being embraced by the party leadership.

The challenge for the Conservatives is that as well as becoming more economically right wing as they become richer voters also become more socially liberal - which creates friction in attempts to win back voters from Reform.

The £100k tax anomaly is mad and needs fixing, but can we drop the fatuous whiny idea that everyone on six figures is aspirational and everyone on less is loafing about with no ambition to speak of? Thankyew.

Manchester City cheated Premier League rules, the Commission found. Did it also cheat HMRC? We've examined the decision and leaked Mancini documents. We think City likely failed to pay £12m in tax. There should be a criminal investigation. Thread:

Again and again we impoverish ourselves to placate the unplacatable, hobbling ourselves and our economy- so that we can no longer afford the things we need, locking us into a downward spiral. Breaking this cycle will take real leadership and vision.

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

You lot may all be internationals, and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Don Revie. But as far as I’m concerned, the first thing you can do for me is chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest f*cking dustbin you can find.
