NHS GP Federation CEO. Not a GP/clinician. Ex artillery forward observer, with dodgy knees and hearing. Favourite comment about me: "His comms style is like a brick through a window."

The other part of this story is that these firms are very happy to reduce low and minimum wage jobs with tech for “efficiency” but then get very squeamish when it’s their jobs that could be cut. It’s why the consequences of adaptation of AI in the corporate environment cannot be left to companies.

In the old days, young people entering the workforce had a technological advantage because they had grown up with tools that older generations had to learn later in life. But AI is relatively new to everyone, and judging its performance requires knowledge of the business domain.

I still rank it as political cowardice. Until the state pension can pay rent, council tax, domestic fuel, and food, it is inadequate. Making pensioners claim benefits to survive is pathetic and effectively so very rich people can feel better about themselves.

To “Labour” folk who refer pension cutting to anything else,: ask the working class generation retiring now what they were told in the 80s and 90s about the state pension. It wasn’t generous but it definitely covered the core bills. Right now, the state pension barely covers rent and domestic fuel.

And this is why Suella Braverman is an idiot regardless of which party suits her opportunist ramblings today. Also, the more the Tories and Labour appease the idiots of the right, the more the right will create idiot ideas like this because you fundamentally cannot appease idiots like Braverman.

I got my Bronze 50m swimming badge at school! Give me influence! Oh, wait, I’m in my 50s, I remember, what I did at school should be largely irrelevant now. As should university as what I’ve done since should be almost the entire tale. But that’s not the way of unwarranted influence.

Folk in their 40s and older will likely remember and know people getting Open University credentials for hundreds of pounds, and doing entire degrees without having to take out debt. A “landmark reform” would be to fix the English student fees that have shifted the decimal point to the right.

How thick do you have to be to have access to patient records AND not know that access is routinely logged? So, why do it? They will know from recent comms out that summary dismissal is the least sanction they can expect.

*extremely tired voice*AI agents don't "go rogue". They are not sentient; they don't have agency. They work within guardrails set by humans. If the humans are so shit at building secure sandboxes for the agents to work within, that's on the humans. Stop using this framing.

If you genuinely believe being English, Scottish, or Welsh is a genetic ethnicity that only you and your narrow descendants meet then you, sir/madam, are one of two things: - you’ve been conned into swallowing large jugs of the Kool Aid; or - you’re racist in the way the Nazis were.

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

One bad side of AI is the persistent “USE OUR AI!” from companies. An example from just now in Microsoft’s OneDrive app where I just cannot remove the “Edit with AI” prompt that it has over every file that I open. Just f… off and let me invoke AI as a function when and if I want it.

Discworld meme. On the left is Death, a skeleton with glowing blue eye sockets wearing a black robe. Death is petting a small kitten.

On the right is the text of the quote.

“I meant,” said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?’

Death thought about it.

CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.
