brings me no joy to say that Fukuyama nailed it
But supposing that the world has become "filled up," so to speak, with liberal democracies, such that there exist no tyranny and oppression worthy of the name against which to struggle?
Experience suggests that if men cannot struggle on behalf of a just cause because that just cause was victorious in an earlier gen-eration, then they will struggle against the just cause. They will struggle for the sake of struggle. They will struggle, in other words, out of a certain boredom: for they cannot imagine living in a world without struggle. And if the greater part of the world in which they live is characterized by peaceful and prosperous liberal democracy, then they will struggle against that peace and pros-perity, and against democracy.

#nzpol In relation to alleged "$cost" of restoring pay equity ... Am interested in "$cost" of: (1) abolishing child labour? (2) abolishing slavery? (3) forcing employers to provide safe working places? (4) allowing workers to take annual leave? "$Cost" is NOT relevant🤔. They are rights✊. 🙏

NZME will make a lot of noise this week about how much Labour's promises are gonna cost, and it's worth comparing to the noise the same journos made about the cost of the coalition's RONS (over $56b) – i.e. when they even bothered to mention it, it was hidden behind innocuous framing and paywalls.

How many Masters and PhD researchers on a living wage would 1 km of this road pay for per year? *1,173* There are 11 km of the road. On average it takes 4 years to do a PhD in Aotearoa and about 2 years to do a Masters. So, 2,346 PhDs and 1,173 Masters degrees properly paid while doing research.

I'd be more okay with not having daylight savings if we had a 4 day/30 hour work week. Pretty much every arrangement of that (4 days, 5 days but starting later, 5 days but finishing earlier, etc.) means that even during the shortest days of the year, you still get some sunshine hours outside work
