Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot

The fundamental core of so many liberal excuses boils down to “the rights of women, blacks, jews etc matter simply because they are an influential voting demographic, trans people aren’t, and all I care about is the math.” And like, fine, you’re a sociopath, just own it. You’re not alone

The $34B that the US spends on mortgage interest deductions—which benefit mainly those with top 10% incomes—is more than it spends on all other housing programs combined. But by giving this public wealth to the already well-off via personal tax returns, it feels like a matter of individual merit.

A digital illustration depicting one large capybara which has a little dicorated saddle on and is being ridden by a smaller capybara that has a little knight's helmet with a visor and a feather plume perched on their head. The little one is also holding a yellow and orange striped tilting lance and there is a shield hanging from the saddle which is decorated with a blue and yellow heraldic device including checkers, an hourglass, and a feathered wing. Streaming off of the lance is an orange banner with gold lettering on it reading 'Maybe it will happen today'.

Jennifer Nelson’s entry to this year’s Minnesota State Fair crop art
A localized version of Guernica with a loon at the center and a person holding an ICE OUT sign

“My piece was inspired by Picasso's Guernica, a work that was his response to the Nazi's bombing of the Basque town. I thought there was a fitting parallel between these incidents about the high price paid by ordinary people when aggressive regimes try out new tactics of war, as well as a fitting juxtaposition of the darkness of living such an experience and the light we shone through it in our own resistance and care for one another. The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’”

Much of what we call “convenience” is just the elimination of contact. Why ask when you can Google, why go somewhere to meet people when you can swipe, why call when you can click? The friction we’re engineering out of life is also where an enormous amount of life happens. What are we without it?

Rudy Giuliani is why a lot of people died during and after 9/11. Has anyone said he shouldn't show up? How about George W. who cut anti-terrorism measures that might've prevented it? Why does racist fantasy harm matter more than real harm; the answer is racism, including in amplifying these voices.

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
From a Reddit forum, a photo of a can of coconut milk with a blue label, papyrus text and a flip-top, on a sidewalk. It seems to hover because there's no visible shadow. The pavement is sort of unevenly colored, with bright spots, and the grass along it is green and lush.
