Do not miss a chance to see this brilliant film on a big screen! Duncan and his team have done it again! Rogue Trooper is so much fun and so deeply imaginative. As I've said elsewhere, it's like the comic books were fed right into the projector!

I wasn't at all familiar with DD when I was first reading 2000AD, but they produced a "Top Trumps" style game of spacecraft where you had to cut up back covers for a few weeks, and one of the ships included was the classic Anastasia. First time I'd seen her. Now *that's* a nice ship.

I liked the Eagles, although I'd rather they hadn't been called that (I understand why they were, of course, just that it clanged noisily with SPACE: 1999). The Fort itself, though... man, that was an ugly ship. Uglier than the Land Raider in JUDGE DREDD "The Cursed Earth," and that's saying a lot.

Today is #WorldOctopusDay 🐙 Did you know that octopuses have blue blood? This graphic looks at what makes it blue, as well as other blood colours seen in different organisms: wp.me/p4aPLT-Fc #ChemSky 🧪
Infographic on the chemistry of the colours of blood. Human blood is red due to haemoglobin, which is also red when deoxygenated - not blue! Spiders, crustaceans, and molluscs including octopuses and squid have blue blood due to haemocyanin, which contains copper instead of iron. When deoxygenated, haemocyanin is colourless. Some segmented worms, some leeches and some marines worms have green blood due to chlorocruorin, which is light green when deoxygenated. Marine worms including peanut worms, penis worms and brachiopods have purple blood due to haemerythrin, which is colourless when deoxygenated.

Did you ever see the one-off TV movie from (checks) 1981 with Bernard Cribbins in the title role? Saw it a very long time ago, but remember liking it largely because Cribbins had a face that looked perennially disappointed with everything, which worked very well in that part.

It's Knife Ghost season.
A pumpkin patch. In the distance, a faint image of a blue ghost surrounded by a halo of carving knives. The text reads: you're carving. The knife ghost waits. Because you're using a knife. Instead of a pumpkin carving kit. Always use a pumpkin carving kit, never a knife.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.

One of my all-time favorite animated characters, Gromit, born from practical and budget limitations. Because, of course. News to me! thank you for your latest article @ani-obsessive.bsky.social animationobsessive.substack.com/p/wallace-an...
Gromit turned into a dog really early on, since Park found dogs easier to model. And the character's dialogue was cut due to animation difficulties in the first week of the shoot. "That's when I realized I could do everything with the eyes. Gromit was suddenly born. He didn't need a mouth. He became a very introvert and very intelligent dog," Park remembered.
