Great moments in Scottish engineering history: James Watt tries to work out how his phone attaches to his selfie stick.
Statue of James Watt. In his right hand he holds a telescopic stick with a frame at the top; in his left he holds a flat object about the size of a large smartphone. He is scowling at the possibly-not-a-smartphone as if he is tempted to yeet it into the sea. On that basis, it probably _is_ a phone.

A 2,300-year-old silver container in the shape of a scallop-shell decorated with an octopus 🐙 It may once have held cosmetics. From Paternò, Sicily. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a silver shell-shaped container with an eight-armed octopus in relief at the centre of the lid. The arms of the octopus curl outwards across the ridges of the shell’s surface. This ornate shell container has a hinged lid and may once have been a cosmetic container . It is displayed on a clear stand in a museum case. Dimensions: 13.3 × 13.2 × 3 cm. It is part of the Silver Treasure from Paternò, Sicily, a hoard discovered in 1909, consisting of tableware and toiletries. Dated 4th-3rd century BC.

INTRODUCTION

The equities here could not be more one-sided. Defendants admit that they
provide a service without fully knowing how it works.

This is not just any service. It is one that Defendants themselves concede poses an existential risk to the continued
survival of humankind.

Defendants claim they cannot stop barreling forward with their potentially civilization-ending endeavors unless they are forced to do so by the
government. They have asked the government to tie them to the mast.

Plaintiff brings good news to the Defendants: The Florida Attorney General is answering your
cry for help with a motion to enjoin you from harming Floridians with your reckless, unacceptably risky product.

Below the title, the summary text asks: "Is the victory of the AfD in Germany a dark day for democracy or a glimmer of hope for sex realists? By David Allison." Status report, “Local(ish) Politics” dep’t: Sweet holy Thoth but could this guy possibly be *more* vague and ineffective? 🫤
British Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Chris Bryant has said he is "very keen to get to some kind of solution" to the Drumcree dispute.

Mr Bryant said he has been speaking to as many people "as possible" and is "exploring every option to see whether there's a solution".

Asked for an update on his meetings, which he said he was prepared to continue tomorrow on return from the Labour conference in Liverpool, Mr Bryant said: "It's been positive so far today and sometimes people showing a bit of ankle, and I think an awful lot of people of good faith wanting to get to a good outcome.

"It's not quite clear what that will look like yet, but kind of - a bit through the mist - I can see maybe what that might look like if I can persuade everybody to sign up."

Asked if the determination around the parade was still live, Mr Bryant said he could not answer the question as he was not a lawyer.

He said there had been no requests from the PSNI to call off the parade under section nine of the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998.

"I believe in the rule of law and I believe that the rule of law should be upheld.

"I'm trying to find a solution that really works for everybody so that everybody can hold their head up high – and it's tantalisingly just a bit far away at the moment, but we're working on it."

Create a disaster plan for your cats via Alley Cat Allies
Create a disaster plan for your cats
One: stay alert. Enable emergency alerts on your phone or other devices.
Two: have a disaster evacuation plan.
Three: create a disaster kit. Keep emergency supplies on hand, including carriers for each cat, food and water, dishes, and medications.
Four: store important documents. Keep up-to-date photos, descriptions, veterinary records, ID tags, and microchip information in an accessible location.
Five: microchip your cats.
Six: identify and prep a backup caregiver.
Seven : make a list of local resources. Include clinics, organizations, disaster shelters, and people you can contact for assistance.
