I’ve never despaired more for politics than during the ACA debate, when universal coverage was nixxed by three words: “government death panels”. As though a panel deciding who gets treatment and who doesn’t was not literally the entire business of health insurance companies…

I've been thinking about this post in light of my own social circles, where I've seen this dynamic play out in an extremely clear way. People who saw themselves as pro-labor leftists fixated on the cost of borger, the cost of egg, the cost of housing, and became more reactionary as a direct result.

This whole kerfuffle does nothing to dissuade me that social media is net negative for human civilization. I now know a lot more about the dynamics of in-group/out-group formation on social media than about the tradeoffs in establishing and running government grocery stores.

This is very sad and I truly feel for these farmers. But let’s be clear about why anyone selects a candidate. It’s not to obtain some specific policy outcome. Brad voted for Trump bc he liked the way Trump made him feel (powerful) and bc all his buddies were voting for Trump, too.

I've always thought one of the biggest mistakes young conservative women have been making is to assume that the achievements established by decades of civil rights and feminist activism was actually a natural baseline for their rights and privileges. They wrongly assumed that progress was a given.

The thing is, Trump and his allies DO have a moral framework. It’s the belief that the rich, the white, the male, and the Christian should dominate and everyone outside of that should conform. But it’s considered uncouth to say that for some reason, so folks like Kat never do.

This explains like 90% of American politics right now
If this analysis is correct, then the situation is actually much more bleak than Savage’s argument would suggest. If diversification efforts generated a huge change, then the backlash to it might be acceptable, something worth risking and weathering if it comes. Instead, what appears to have happened is a lot of empty talk, no real significant change, and backlash that is causing real harm. This is the worst of all possible worlds.

Reminder: we are in this together. Whether you accept it or not, they’ll eventually remind you.
A tweet by Dr. Anastasia Maria Loupis shows a photo of Zohran Mamdani wearing a white kippah while sitting beside Brad Lander at an event with candles behind them. The caption reads, “So this is the Muslim Mayor of New York lol.” The tweet implies mockery and hostility by suggesting that Mamdani—who is Muslim—is symbolically subservient to Jews because he is wearing a kippah, invoking an antisemitic trope about Jewish control and an Islamophobic framing of divided loyalty.

The image shows a text post from a tumble user with the handle "theconcealedweapon" making an argument about the importance of protecting the rights of criminals as a safeguard against government tyranny. The post presents the following key points:

If you want to prevent government tyranny, ensuring criminals have rights must be your top priority
This is not meant as a joke or exaggeration
Without rights for criminals, governments can simply label people as criminals to strip away their rights
The post claims this has been a common tactic of tyrannical governments throughout history
The post concludes that believing people who break laws should forfeit their rights is effectively supporting tyranny

The argument centers on the idea that due process and legal protections for accused/convicted persons are fundamental safeguards against authoritarian government overreach.
