It should alarm us that the civilian head of the military gathers together troops to give them a political speech in which he calls the free press treasonous. He should be removed from office for doing so.

This quote really doesn’t do the clip justice. It’s much dumber than what you just read. Gotta love the lie about Dart’s jersey sales and the way he has to make everything and everyone a reflection of his own greatness. Incredible stuff

Yes, imagine a party which was obsessed with a single issue and which damaged the UK and its foreign relationships
Tories rule out taking part in Burnham's proposed cross-party commission on electoral reform
The Conservatives have ruled out supporting Andy Burnham’s proposed cross-party commission to work on electoral reform.

In an interview with Sky News, Kevin Hollinrake, the Tory chair, replied with a clear “no” when asked if his party would take part.

Hollinrake went on:

We think this is totally the wrong thing, despite the fact under any system of proportional representation, we’d have got more seats than we did in 2024, in that election.
That’s not the point. The point is you want decisive elections.
The public had a referendum on proportional representation back in 2011. It rejected it.
And we’re in an era now potentially moving into an era of sectarian politics, where you have small parties that represent particular interests, be it Gaza, be it Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party.
Does anybody think it’d be a good idea for a government to be propped up by one of those parties who have single issue policies that really would be potentially very damaging to the UK itself and to our foreign relationships?

Think is the problem of being oppositional rather than just the Opposition. Implementation is only going to happen if you lose the next election, so why not have input into shaping it - and even if you don't want to co-operate, politically, storm out when they suggest sth you can paint as outrageous

Trump said his GOP convention beat the NFL. Nielsen says the Seahawks-Patriots opener drew 25.1 million viewers. Trump’s speech drew about 3.3 million across three networks. Claiming victory after losing by roughly 21.8 million people takes a special kind of self delusion.

So far, Badenoch, Corbyn and Polanski are against Burnham’s proposals re-the triple Lock. I’ve no idea what reform think if anything but they’ll be against it too. All the right people are opposed.

Ok - so I fall into the camp you don't like. But there is absolutely zero point UK agonising itself into a position which will fail the moment it meets the EU.. see for instance T Blair. Our options need to take account of what the EU might think and how we would persuade them its worth it
