A personal view, borne from investigating illegal betting networks, is that one of the best ways to fight financial crime is to criminalise the enablers; the lawyers, accountants and trust managers who are perfectly aware of the criminal nature of their clients' activities but choose to look away.

The health of a democracy can be judged by the state and diversity of its local media. In the UK, with apologies to @bylinesnetwork.co.uk, they have all but disappeared as independent entities. Same in the US, where 1000s of titles have been bought by companies which run them into the ground.
