When it comes to current Labour or National there's no such thing as harm reduction, only people negotiating how much harm we as marginalised people are expected to endure for a goddamn cynical ritual of Red VS Blue. (4)

What I really love during election year and at every other time is think pieces by dudes framing pay equity as a choice/cost versus a basic inherent policy that any democracy should have as a given right - which also wouldn’t be framed as such if men were the ones primarily impacted by its absence.
Analysis Thomas Coughlan - NZ Herald headline
Labour says it can fund pay equity and public services - its fiscal plan suggests it can't afford

#nzpol IIRC no-one in the pretty mid post debate 'analysis' mentioned that Luxon finished 20 points behind Hipkins & third behind 'undecided'. Whatever the panel might have thought the undecideds had a pretty firm view. If you're treating politics as a horse-race surely this was pretty important.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: on the set of the Jerry Springer show, a man sits in a chair. Jerry signals off-stage and says, “we have with us: your ancestor who crawled out of the ocean 375 million years ago!” Panel 2: the live studio audience is booing. Panel 3: security attempts to break up a fight between the man on stage, and his ancestor, a tiktaalik.

#nzpol In relation to alleged "$cost" of restoring pay equity ... Am interested in "$cost" of: (1) abolishing child labour? (2) abolishing slavery? (3) forcing employers to provide safe working places? (4) allowing workers to take annual leave? "$Cost" is NOT relevant🤔. They are rights✊. 🙏

Apparently good economic management involves increasing unemployment until one in six young people are out of work, poor, and increasingly disenfranchised. Is this 'building the future'? Would 'fixing the basics' not involve fixing this disaster?

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Today, it is almost accepted as inevitable that NZ's wages will always lag behind Australia's, a decent slice of the population will be unemployed, the young will emigrate in large numbers, and the country can't afford 'nice' things (such as basic services that were once taken for granted).

Response from Stuff #nzpol
Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and share your concerns.

We appreciate that you found the language used in the headline offensive. In this instance, the headline directly quoted comments made by Winston Peters, one of New Zealand's most senior politicians. Where public figures use controversial or offensive language in the course of their public duties, there can be a strong public interest in reporting their words accurately so readers understand both what was said and the reaction it may provoke.

Our intention was not to endorse, but to report it faithfully as part of a newsworthy political story. We recognise that readers may disagree with that editorial judgement.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.
