Apparently good economic management involves increasing unemployment until one in six young people are out of work, poor, and increasingly disenfranchised. Is this 'building the future'? Would 'fixing the basics' not involve fixing this disaster?

From the paywalled NZH. That Farrar appears regularly on RNZ as a commentator tells you a lot about how right wing our public broadcaster has become #nzpol
Mahuta said since leaving politics she had reflected on an experience “that was designed to take away from me personally”. “If the Taxpayers’ Union think they broke me, no. I’m in a stronger place now.

“That campaign was insidious, dishonest and denigrated a lot of years of hard work building inclusiveness and togetherness. That speaks to the very kind of politics we don’t want in New Zealand.”

Dirty Work – released last night – claimed the Taxpayers’ Union shift to focus on Māori and co-governance issues triggered an internal fight over the organisation’s direction and ended with chairman Ashley Church resigning.

Hager claimed the dispute followed the extraordinary success of the organisation’s Stop Three Waters campaign, which rapidly increased its supporter list and helped generate millions of dollars in donations.

He said there was opposition inside the Taxpayers’ Union because the move took it beyond its traditional focus on lowering tax, reducing government spending and developing economic policy.

The dispute came during 2022, after the organisation had spent months campaigning against the Labour Government’s Three Waters reforms.

According to former staff quoted by Hager, Taxpayers’ Union co-founder David Farrar wanted the organisation to “weigh in on these Māori issues more”.
