In Seattle, affordability requirements carry no corresponding offsetting benefit for developers, which makes them a tax on housing. In Bellevue, affordability requirements come with a generous property tax exemption that offsets the added cost to developers. Here’s the scoreboard:

The Golden Gardens shuttle launches NEXT WEEK
Starting Saturday, June 27, buses will run every 30 minutes from Market Street in Ballard directly to Golden Gardens Park, one of the most popular parks on Puget Sound. The service runs daily from 11 AM to 9 PM through Aug. 30. Rides cost $3—the same as a regular Metro bus—and are free for youth 18 and under.

It’s worth noting that when Jan. 6 happened, the pro-Trump right used dozens of conspiracy theories to try and offload blame from themselves—e.g., claiming it was “antifa,” “feds.” Now, they seem keen to just admit they did it—all of it—and it was good.

My LoTR subway maps have been quite popular, but they're not the only ones I've drawn! I really like my Narnia one, too. With separate lines for the plot arcs of each of the books, it gives you a fun way to see Lewis's world. #narnia #maps #subway #CSLewis It's for sale here: etsy.me/4mkfBsU
A subway style map on a parchment background. The map's title reads: "Narnia Transit Map: Talking Beasts Ride Free." The map has seven keys, one for each of the seven books in C.S. Lewis's Narinia series. The main movements of characters and action in each book are traced by colored lines, like a subway map. Locations in each book are marked out as stops in the lines. There is a drawing of a lion above the title of the map, and in the lower right corner there is a compass rose.

The evidence that Waymo is safer than human drivers is increasingly overwhelming. It’s driven more than 200 million miles without being at fault for a fatal crash. #waleg needs to allow them. Set reasonable guardrails. Establish regional caps. Allow UTC to regulate them. But get it done already!

I understand folks are scared but I want you to think about the mechanics of this. There are more polling places (>100k) than ICE and CBP agents combined, so they can only pick a few districts to try to intimidate. Now what happens when cell phone footage of that goes online in the early morning?

FWIW one the simplest ways to increase the affordability of NYC transit *today* would be to auto-enroll SNAP recipients into Fair Fares via HRA adjunctive eligibility. SNAP is a strong proxy for Fair Fairs eligibility and 75-90% of eligible NYers have SNAP vs only 30-35% for Fair Fares.

One low profile thing that Dem state legislators should be doing is passing legislation that extends the statute of limitations for crimes like trespassing, kidnapping, home invasion, and false imprisonment to something like 50 years. Unrelatedly, Munich is an awesome movie.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.
