this is in part why I don't understand "never think of the reader when writing" folks, thinking about your reader isn't automatically kowtowing, sometimes it's saying "I will ruin you"

The US Web Design System is load-bearing infrastructure for thousands of government websites. It makes it easy for small teams with no resources (i.e. most .gov teams) to make usable, accessible websites that work for everyone. Today, it's as close as it's ever been to being replaced with AI slop.

I find this stuff fascinating; this is basically the animation world's equivalent of how pixel art games were designed to be played on glass tube TVs. The "imperfections" created in the process of publishing the work are part of the planned end product.

In Ozu, Ehime, there's a store called ショッパーズ (Shoppers) whose old weathered sign is now an unreadable ンョ゛ハー゛. Its official X account goes by that name and, when the shop said it was renovating, locals asked that they keep this piece of eroded linguistic history.
A Yahoo! News Japan article page, in Japanese, topped by a photo of a weathered supermarket sign in Ozu, Ehime. A cartoon smiling face in a white circle sits at the left, followed by large red katakana that originally spelled ショッパーズ (Shoppers) but have lost pieces and now read ンョ゛ハー゛, which is not a readable word. The Japanese headline says the unreadable sign will be kept after the store's renovation at the request of residents and fans.A post from the store's official X account, in Japanese, with two photos. Left: the new red Shoppers Nagahama sign on the store roof, with a cartoon smiley logo. Right: the old weathered sign, now unreadable, re-mounted at street level beside the entrance.

CHAPTER

1

The magic in that country was so thick and tenacious that it settled over the land like chalk-dust and over floors and shelves like slightly sticky plaster-dust. (Housecleaners in that country earned unusually good wages.) If you lived in that country, you had to de-scale your kettle of its encrusta-tion of magic at least once a week, because if you didn't, you might find yourself pouring hissing snakes or pond slime into your teapot instead of water. (It didn't have to be anything scary or unpleasant, like snakes or slime, especially in a cheerful household magic tended to reflect the atmosphere of the place in which it found itself-but if you want a cup of tea, a cup of lavender-and-gold pansies or ivory thimbles is unsatisfactory. And while the pansies-put dry in a vase-would probably last a day, looking like ordinary pansies, be-fore they went greyish-dun and collapsed into magic dust, something like an ivory thimble would begin to smudge and

crumble as soon as you picked it up.) The best way to do it was to have a fairy as a member of your household, because she (it was usually a she) could lay a finger on the kettle just as it came to a boil (absentminded fairies could often be recognised by a pad of scar-tissue on the finger they favoured for kettle-cleaning) and murmur a

GLaDOS is literally the funniest character ever. Her arc culminates in her saying "I hate you so much it's not even with the trouble of killing you, so just fucking LEAVE. And on your way out heres a full choir to sing 'Goodbye My Datling', an Aria I wrote in Italian about how I love you and want you to be safe, which mentions you by name. Don't read into it. A man is vacuuming while trying to make conversation with someone in another room. He is thrilled with the turning radius of the machine. A voice from the other room yells, “What?” The vacuuming man yells back, “I said this puppy’s got serious turning radius.” It’s likely he’ll continue to repeat himself over the sound of the vacuum Artist’s note: I’m always aiming for bold and sloppy line work. We achieved that here.
