I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...
"SCRUBJAY" sits over a bunch of images of frogs, birds, doors. it's a very 90s look

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

The primate gathers charred sticks from the fire pit and dumps them into the river. They clap their hands and return to their cave. Entering, they place a hand on the wall and notice they’ve left an ashy handprint. The primate (now with worm-in-a-rock god on their head) calls to the family, and leads the others down to their cave. The family reacts less excitedly to the hand print than the primate and worm-in-a-rock god are to show it off. Inside the cave, worm-in-a-rock god, the primate, and the family are gathered and sooty. They are looking at hand prints they each made on the wall.

In mid-2025 Alex Spencer did an incredible preview of Big Walk for Edge, doomed to print purgatory. Been thinking about this vignette of Jake's hand-placing rocks ever since. As the slop wave intensifies, it's just a beautiful depiction of a game made by people who care (and have the time to care).
For the tour's conclusion, we've all gathered
at the central mountain's summit, arriving just as
the sun peeks over the horizon and bathes the
world in pink, syrupy light. Disseldorp is fiddling
with a handheld radio, seeking the perfect station
to complete the mood, while the rest of us pass
around a pair of binoculars and Strasser describes
placing every single rock on the island by hand,
working his way around clockwise. He points out
the areas already done, with an outstretched arm.
"I've gotten to the edge of this valley," he says.
"That's my big job, between now and release."

God bless the weird mod trend that I keep seeing called "immersive masochism." Yes, of course it's a good idea to simulate the process of troweling on mortar and placing one brick at a time instead of a cubical "brick block"
Screenshot of the Brick-by-Brick mod for Vintage Story.
Image shows a cartoony version of a bricklayer making a wall in the middle of a field, with an afternoon sun and birch trees in the distance.
Tags: Realism Immersive Immersion Mechanic Construction Building

Brick-by-Brick
Brick-by-Brick makes masonry a hands-on building process. Instead of placing a finished brick block all at once, you use a trowel, mortar, and individual bricks to build it in stages.

This is still a somewhat rough prototype. The main idea is working, but there are large improvements planned if people enjoy the concept and want to see it developed further.

A fraction of the giant hoard is on display in the exhibition, including "the block," a 330-pound mass of fused-together artifacts. Spearheads, wagon parts and harness pieces are visible from the outside, but "what's inside is largely a mystery, the museum's archaeology curator, Emily North, tells BBC News' Seb Cheer and Joanita Musisi.

THE PRISONER ♟️Coming to the Criterion Channel in July!
The Prisoner

Long before Twin Peaks beamed prime-time surrealism into the American living room, there was The Prisoner, the 1960s British cult sensation that pushed television into new realms of unsettling, Kafkaesque mystery across seventeen hypnotic, thrilling episodes. With its prescient exploration of free will in the age of surveillance, this pop-culture touchstone remains one of the most discussed and endlessly analyzed series in television history.
