1. #MedievalSky, grab a lifejacket and a seasickness bag, we’re casting off on a thread about the Norman invasion fleet in 1066! 960 years ago, the Normans landed at Pevensey and established a base at the Roman shore fort which was already succumbing to erosion from the sea on its south side. 1/20

The NEC Breakfast Computer PROFESSOR TOAST HYPER 7 was a unique morning-oriented computer designed to sit on a user's nightstand and provide a quick portal into email, local news, and hot fresh toast all in the one unit.

The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.

If you get mad at stuff like this then it’s REALLY important you read the first chapter of The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson. Broadmoor is hell, and anyone who “manipulates the system” to get sent there isn’t getting out, and is almost certainly in the right place.

Happy birthday Ewa! Here is Clarence interrupting a call with my mum to express his displeasure at the presence of Bandit on the landing. Bandit, aka God's Perfect Idiot, can be seen assuming one of his very normal positions.
Clarence, a large black cat with green eyes, is resting his paw on the keyboard of a laptop and staring straight at the cameraman with a slightly accusing expression. Bandit, a medium-sized tuxie cat with stunning green eyes, is lying on a fluffy black mat on the landing of a house. He is in what can only be described as a very daft pose, on his back at his rearmost part, but then turning his body through 90 degrees by the time we reach the head. His expression could be read as annoyance, but for those who know him is simply his default expression of Zero Thoughts Only Vibes.

Inspiring Travel Ideas for 2026
Chosen By Our Readers Who Are Microplastics

2
Stuck for somewhere to go on holiday this year? Microplastic Guardian readers offer their travel tips

3

A Pristine highland river

This glorious unspoilt Scottish river feels a million miles from a sausage roll packet, but it’s actually just a short picnic away!

Paul and David, sausage roll packet bits

4
Breathtaking Mountaintop

True travellers know it’s not about the destination, but the journey. We simply left our plastic bag with no plan, hopping a serendipitously from gust to gust all the way to the Haute-Pyrénées

Sue and Tom, bits of plastic bag

5
Polar Bear’s balls

Since we left our Space Invaders packet in 1983, we've developed a taste for adventure. Most tourists are happy with package holidays in European genitals, but the Arctic Circle has some wonderful undiscovered testes.

Janet and Ian, crisp packet particles

6
Human foetus

Human placentas are such tourist traps, with every single one on Earth now occupied by microplastic holidaymakers. We've gone ‘off the beaten track’ and entered the a delightful foetus’s lungs.

The Wilsons, ground Ford Ka indicator wand.

7
Liz Truss

We’ve spent four glorious summers in the frontal cortex of former UK Government star, Elizabeth Truss. A truly vibrant spot to just sit back, relax, and watch the colourful thoughts roll by!

Diogo and Shawna, spork dust

8
Your Child’s Eyeball

The wonder of travel is seeing the world with fresh eyes, and you can't get fresher than the eyes of your kid. Easily accessible via the bloodstream.

Dennis, polyurethane spray foam

9
The Mariana Trench

Ever since we were dropped into the sea in 2022, we’ve strayed ever further from the ’tourist trail’. Last year we found this blissfully peaceful Pacific trench.

"I say, Jeeves! I've gone viral!"

"Congratulations, sir." Jeeves bowed his head.

"There's just one F-tier pull, in the proverbial gacha, if you catch my meaning. Said virality is localized entirely to Tumblr dot com."

Jeeves raised his left eyebrow an eighth of an inch. "Sir?"

Those who know Bertram Wooster know that he is nothing if not extremely online. But the Tumblrites' ways had me stymied, and I told Jeeves as much.

"Take these tags, jeeves, from Tumblr user aziraphales-sweaty— Well, you can see this username, Jeeves. User A.S.C.A.B. reblogged with '#I'M GNAWING OFF MY OWN LEG'. What do you make of it?"

"Perhaps I can offer illumination, sir."

"Illuminate by all means, Jeeves. Listed pronouns are worm/worm, if that helps."

"It is my understanding that in such matters, approbation can be discerned through the depth of emotion expressed, rather than the literal text."

"You mean, worm is jolly well chuffed?"

"Precisely, sir."

"Naruhodo, Jeeves." A thought occurred. "Do *you* have a Tumblr account, by any chance?"

Jeeves said nothing.
