This would be an interesting move ahead of energy bills climbing to £2,000 a year. The Warm Homes Plan (and CCS and hydrogen) are also meant to be political cover for Burnham's 'pragmatic' approach to more North Sea drilling.

I find this stuff remarkable. This is in response to a story about record numbers of ambulance callouts for "life-threatening" emergencies during the June heatwave. Real, tangible evidence that extreme heat is contributing to people dying or nearly dying in the UK. But it's still a "scare story"

This is absolutely brutal and highlights why the PM has already trailed an effort to lower bills for the worst off by £200. You will note that this is less than the half the projected increase. I can't see this holding.

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

And wait until the next price cap to really hear how cheap gas is. As an aside, front month gas closed at a post-Iran high yesterday, pretty much double the price of the same contract two years ago, which would be 50% higher than the same contract three years previous of that. So cheap guys.

They have 45GW of gas and 20GW of nuclear in 2050, hard to see how it could be cheaper given how much turbines cost nowadays. Most of their wholesale price saving just comes from removing UK ETS from generators, so not really realistic at all.
