This is a poor take that suggests Owen Jones doesn't know much about Russia in the 1990s, including Russia-US or wider Russia-West relations in the 1990s. By giving only one part of the story, he is repeating the Russian political elite's self-serving line that it was all the West's fault. Long 🧵

The BBC trying to apply balance to reporting of people doing crimes is obviously insane. What's next, the BBC reporting on domestic violence and including the perspective of someone who beats their wife?

The complete and total collapse of state function in the face of far right extremists. It is frankly ludicrous that Daniel Thomas continues to be at large given the series of crimes committed which he has literally filmed.

AI is superb at rapid generation of complex mathematical models, making it dead handy in quant spaces like energy modelling. The role of the human becomes machine QA, but that is much more productive than writing in a spreadsheet yourself, and also requires more expertise.

I am going to risk being a Bluesky Main Character here by saying I have some sympathy with the Piddington traitors: I also would not want 1,200 bored young men to materialise in my town. But the solution is simple. Let them work! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Amazing and depressing in equal measure. Two centuries of a world in which one power enforced freedom of navigation dissolving before our eyes. I really don't think people want to see what a world without global trade would look like.

This is absolutely brutal and highlights why the PM has already trailed an effort to lower bills for the worst off by £200. You will note that this is less than the half the projected increase. I can't see this holding.

I am much more sanguine about AI risk, because I suspect that in a world where someone tells an AI to end humanity someone else will tell their AI to do the opposite, and then we just gum up data centres with fighting electric demons for a few months before we accept the internet is over.

I would urge people to read all the words around quotes as well as the quotes themselves if they want to understand the position of people like Wittgenstein. The entirety of the Philosophical Investigations is an analysis of language from multiple perspectives that reveals that language is social.

I'm a house owner, I couldn't care less if the value of my house declined, but I know there is an entire generation, probably two now, who have little to no reason to harbour ambition because everything is out of reach (house, family, basically any life event). Unleashing them is more important.

Uncomfortably, Mr Tice is correct here. Achieving Net Zero, even a planetary Net Zero, will not stop heat waves. CO2 has a half-life of 30-50 years and we would experience elevated temperatures for half a century at least after achieving it. /1 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
