“The Government has a choice: commit to taking action on the climate seriously, reject Heathrow expansion and constrain excessive flying, or abandon the UK’s climate targets and future generations by giving the third runway the go-ahead.” - Mike Childs, Friends of the Earth. shorturl.at/kjJYb

Can we expand Heathrow with a third runway and meet our legally binding climate targets? ❌️ This was a question that we set out to answer – and on this basis, on this evidence, a third runway at Heathrow should NOT be approved ⬇️ tyndall.ac.uk/news/heathro...

The @commonseac.parliament.uk report released today concludes that current government support for airport expansion is incompatible with the UK’s climate and nature targets, and is based on claims of economic growth that lack substansive evidence. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Grateful to have contributed to this piece with Kevin. Airport expansion is a clear test of whether the UK is serious about its climate commitments. New airport capacity and meeting our carbon obligations simply do not align, and the costs fall hardest on those who fly least.
