Lots of fuss in the UK atm about drinking water reservoirs, but probably just as important is the need for a mass increase in agricultural reservoirs. Frankly whether your car is cleaned by hosepipe matters less than if you can afford bread.

It's the nature of democracy that ministers will often be in charge of areas they don't have a history in. But it's their approach to expertise that is a worry. NHS staff are seen as a vested interest to be taken on, while contractors are trusted advisors. This is pure Thatcherism and very silly.

Disability doesn’t care how old you are. Specialist food is no cheaper if you’re 19. Employers don’t lose their prejudice if you’re 21. This is blatant intergenerational inequality from Labour. Younger disabled people of all severities deserve better. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I do often get the sense from new Heath ministers that they don't really understand Healthcare. They often announce schemes incredibly similar to stuff that been announced by processors, in response to on-going problems and seem surprised by well known info.

I sometimes wonder how much the fact that Health ministers are usually drawn from the demographic that uses the NHS the least (able bodied, white men, young-middle aged) is a factor in it's issues. It probably plays a part in the obsession with apps and convenience over continuity and human contact.

A study from the University of Iowa Health Care found that age and gender played a role in self-reported long COVID symptoms, but the recency of a COVID-19 vaccine or booster was not a factor.

Today, I see angry young men online LARPing as Catholics, often for the aesthetic. They celebrate strength and hate the weak. The use slurs against the disabled and fantasize about enacting Crusader violence against their enemies. I wish the Pope would speak directly on this.

The Pope reminds me of a version of Catholicism I knew growing up as a young man attending anti-war and anti-death penalty protests, where I met elderly Catholics who shared their version of faith with me. I learned that Catholicism was about love and mercy for the weak, the condemned, and the poor.
