During WW2, Olga Lehmann's decorative murals enlivened the dour interiors of the nationwide chain of state-run 'British restaurants,' requisitioned hotels, the ministry of aircraft production and the government censorship department in Holborn. This work is from 1940.

A man replied to this saying in earnest that women need to get organized and fight for our rights and men will follow. We did that. We do that. We mobilized the largest single day protest in global history on every continent and yet I have fewer rights than my mom did at my age.

'Landscape with Magnolia.' (1938) One thing has always been clear about Stanley Spencer: he is the 20thC English artist inextricably linked with a sense of place. In this picture you sense his obsessive need to paint the smallest detail of each blade of grass.
