An Edwardian doll made from a shoe; part of the Lovett collection held at St Fagans museum. Found in a London slum, she’s made from a shoe, and black sock, and various fabric scraps. Currently back on display at the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh alongside other dolls from the Lovett collection.
A doll made from a shoe: pieces of paper or fabric have been cut out and stuck to the sole of the heel to make eyes, mouth, nose; the rest of the shoe has a loose dress of discoloured fabric with a lace collar. Two arms are made of thin sticks wrapped in rough black fabric. The doll has a museum label tied around it and rests on crumpled tissue
