Resorting to "Mickey Mouse" degree denigration is an obvious, lazy red flag. The Times twists itself into knots to cover the nakedness of its grasp of HE (much less of how 18-year-olds actually make degree choices). In happier contexts, 'smother signals of quality' would be dismissed hilariously.

Day 1 of teaching. I would have been running Round the Wrekin, an introductory module exploring the cultural history of the West Midlands across centuries and multiple media, plus academic skills. It’s been replaced by a generic skills module across multiple subjects to save money on staffing.

🎯the number of summers - the time when there's the greatest possibility for me of developing a funding application - I've spent putting them together, rather than doing something with a realiseable outcome (articles, book, public-facing work, etc) ... only for bid to fail. Another summer, gone.
