You can’t call on individual workers to not answer their emails when sick. You have to force employers to leave them tf alone. The problem of never taking all your vacation isn’t solved by “take it all and have a thick skin about it.” There are systemic reasons for all of this.

Ahem: your lists of “toxic workplace behaviors” are generally ableism and misogyny with a healthy sprinkling of racism, and you can’t stop them if you can’t name them. You can’t smarten up a system that inherently degrades people for having fallible bodies and needs and punishes difference.

One really nice thing about not having an actively miserable job is that I can just sit down and do stuff on my days off.

The "social contagion" thing drives me screaming angry. When I was young I had no clue trans ppl existed. I'd never met anyone trans. I saw cruel caricatures in pop culture occasionally. When I realized trans was a thing someone could be, it hit like a lightning bolt. My life felt newly possible.

I still think how in The Starving Saints pretty much all three leads are utterly unaffected by the horrors. A character does die but gets resurrected a chapter later rendering it utterly meaningless. They all walk off holding hands actually improved by the experience. Unlike everyone else.
