"The share of non-paying passengers is lower than the perception that most of the population has of "large numbers": the estimate is 2.5%-3.7%" from a recent article by Cityrailways analyzing recent ridership trends of Rome's metro: cityrailways.com/speciale/big...
Evidence on non-paying passengers
The method adopted—integration of turnstiles, external surveys, and floating cellular data —allows us to estimate the proportion of illegal passengers, i.e., how many travelers jump the turnstiles . First of all, the external section of Line C has a ground-level emergency exit on the north side, on the platform heading toward the city center, accessible from the outside if someone opens the exit door from the inside. These doors are alarmed, but, while remote monitoring at the Central Station remains in place, the local siren is deactivated. The number of entries detected was 43,694/month in the first period and 35,209/month in the second period, equal to approximately 1,551/1,202 per weekday. Compared to the legal demand , this represents a share of 2.3% for the first survey period and 1.6% for the second period.

Even at the network level, the share of non-paying passengers is lower than the perception that most of the population has of "large numbers": the estimate is 2.5%-3.7%, or 19,900-28,500 passengers per weekday.

So much respect for this, and the framing. ABC, the right wing version of Progress Toronto, has used health care workers/hospitals as reason to rip them out. This puts a lie to that (and on University ambulances can bypass cars in the wide bikelanes if needed). So many lies.

My most radical take is that TOD is a scam invented by single-family home preservationists to find a scientifically sound way to concentrate "those people" is specific areas outside of where real people live, and urbanists have embraced it because it's better than nothing.

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Called it. The father was charged with punching the child while the mother did witness intimidation to cover it up. www.wbur.org/news/2026/09...
The case was reported to the state in early 2025. Both parents were charged in connection with an incident at the family’s Southborough home in late January of that year, according to court documents. WBUR is not identifying the teenager, who is a minor.

Joseph Kutzko was accused of punching and threatening his then-15-year-old child at the family home on Jan. 28, 2025, records from Westborough District Court show. A Southborough police detective wrote that Kutzko punched the victim in the shoulder and pulled them by their hair. Kutzko later allegedly threatened to kill the victim “for not singing in tune during a birthday celebration,” according to court records.

Kutzko was arrested the next day and pleaded not guilty. In setting bail, the judge referred to three prior restraining orders against Kutzko, one of which is permanent. She did not say whether any are tied to this case.

The child’s mother, Arlene Kutzko, was charged with witness intimidation after allegedly pressuring the child to “tell the school that she was exaggerating and being stupid.”
