Alicia: [Of course I’ll be your partner!]
Kathleen smiles.
Alicia, grinning cheekily: [If you can afford me, of course.]
Kathleen looks aside, stricken with anxiety.
Kathleen: [right… (I don’t have a WebKomics TM budget anymore…)]
Alicia extends a hand to Kathleen
Alicia: [But seriously— I’ve always planned on following you, wherever you go.]
Kathleen takes Alicia’s hand.
Alicia: [So don’t get sick of me yet!]

Alicia and Kathleen have exited the WebKomics TM building, which can be seen in the distance.
Alicia: [I’m sorry about how things worked out…]
Kathleen: [Don’t be! Just because I’ve left WebKomics TM doesn’t mean I’ve quit comics.]
Kathleen smiles down at her hand.
Kathleen: [I WANT to keep making comics. After I let my wrist recover, of course. But until then, I need help.]
Kathleen: [Alicia— will you be my partner?]
Alicia looks back at Kathleen, blushing furiously, mouth slightly open.
Kathleen, blushing back: [My ART partner! My partner in ART!]

Emmy hurries from down the hall.
Emmy: [Kat, wait.]
Kathleen turns from Alicia.
Kathleen: [Emmy?]
Emmy, serious: [Please think this through. Think about what’s best for your comic—for your fans! Think about what you can do with US.]
Kathleen, smiling shyly: [Emmy, I’ll always be grateful to ALL of you for changing my life. Thanks for taking a chance on me.]
Kathleen begins to turn away from Emmy. Alicia smiles at her from behind her.

Alicia hugs Kathleen.
Alicia: [You’re actually doing it! I’m so glad they said yes to it!]
Kathleen: [Oh, they didn’t, though.]
Alicia, surprised and confused, pulls away from the hug to stare at Kathleen.
Alicia: [Wait—what—?]
Kathleen: [They said they wouldn’t greenlight my series as a yuri…]
Kathleen grins and throws up a peace sign.

Emmy ushers Kathleen into a meeting room, where people are already seated.
Kathleen, fidgeting: [Thanks for meeting me on short notice.]
Emmy, cheerful: [Anything for our turtlekat!]
We see some of the WebKomics board members, all middle-aged men, seated.
Board member 1: [Emmy’s been telling us how excited fans are for your new series.]
Board member 3: [We can always rely on you to be our safe & sure hit!]
Kathleen, looking at her hands: [Well, I wanted to talk about that, actually. I want to do something DIFFERENT this time…]

Kathleen: [I AM!]
The pair stands before a doorway inside the building.
Alicia: [Do you want to go home…? (I’ll tel Emmy you’re sick!]
Kathleen: [No…now that I’ve admitted how I truly feel…]
Kathleen suddenly appears in a more dramatic, detailed romance anime style, sparkles and bubbles behind her.

![A four-panel comic drawn on purple post-its.
Kathleen, smiling forlornly: [I think this would have been the story my heart desired, once. The first comic I wrote definitely was something like that.]
Kathleen continues to narrate over a vision of her first comic’s characters, surrounded by hearts and sparkles: [Lots of people told me my first story was cheesy or self-indulgent, but… the truth is, it just made me HAPPY. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with writing a story like that. I never have. And I know it made OTHER people happy, too.]
18-year-old Kathleen and 26-year-old Kathleen stand back to back, smiling. A ribbon shaded like the bisexual flag weaves behind them.
Kathleen: [But… I’m almost a decade older now. I’ve learned more about the world— and about MYSELF. I want to write a story that’s true to THIS me.]

Alicia: [Sure, WebKomics TM has done a lot for you. But you’ve done a lot for them, too.]

Alicia, narrating from present-day: [It’s no secret that making comics demands everything from you.]
Alicia’s speech bubble splits the panel diagonally, with young Alicia drawing in one section, and Kathleen drawing in the other.
Alicia: [If you give your time, your body, your youth all to the story you tell…]
Back to present-day, Alicia and Kathleen face each other.

Kathleen: [The thing is, I owe WebKomics TM the whole world.]

Kathleen, from the present, narrating: [They took a chance on a rookie artist fresh out of high school—no real drawing experience or art school—and signed me on full-time.]
Kathleen’s hand draws a line across the bottom of the panel.
Kathleen: [How many artists who dream of making comics actually get the time and resources to make them? And how many of those comics get the love and support and attention that ANY of mine have gotten?]
Present-dat, Kathleen sits on the couch beside Alicia, head bowed.

Alicia: [Earlier today, when you pitched the catfight between your characters, it didn’t FEEL right.]
Alicia, looking back at Kathleen: [It didn’t feel like the kind of feeling I got reading your other comics… the ones that made me fall in love with your writing.]

Kathleen and Alicia sit side by side on Kathleen’s sofa, looking down at their boba.
Alicia, shyly: [You know… I never told you the real reason I loved My Wonderful Wizard Boyfriend.]
Alicia’s words are overlaid with her memory of reading My Wonderful Wizard Boyfriend. She scrolls over a panel of a girl with wavy light hair.
Alicia: [I liked the romance… but what really sold me was the male lead’s older sister.]
A young Alicia’s face, tired and framed by undyed dark hair, is illuminated by the screen of her phone as she reads the comic.
Alicia: [It was the very first time I ever read

Kathleen: [Hello— ALICIA?]
Alicia stands in the doorway, waving shyly, one hand behind her back.

Kathleen: [It’s not like I even really disagree about the plot point… but a job is a job…]
Kathleen sighs. She sits on the edge of the bed with a worried expression.
Kathleen: [Comics move FAST. If she’s not on the same page as me, I should maybe find a new artist…]
