Someone WILL win this RFP. We don't know how they'll decide, there is no fairness monitor. It will likely be the lowest bidder. Do we want a firm that is well regarded wrt cycling infra & will work with the city? Or do we want to scare everyone away? I'd much rather a known, good firm win it.

This was also my first nighttime ride on the MGT in many years. And it may be my last (at least on Bikeshare) unless the lighting is improved. It was so dangerous that I considered walking the bike. I barely reached 10km/h because any faster felt too unsafe Why isn't it better? >>>

First time thru this #BikeTO 🚦on a bike since we installed it In 2018-19 we designed & installed 6 bike signals over 2y with a consultant, before we had the help of the Trans Division's signals unit. It was 🫠 Now 20+ new 🚦 & mods are installed each year. It was also the first use of this sign

I met a resident who lives across the street from the Parkside camera (RIP) & saw it happen multiple times. Saw the people & vehicles used. Had recordings. They didn't say anything to police because they "didn't want to be a narc" 🫠 There are def doorbell cameras that had plenty of evidence.

The Parks division has always been a mystery. At last week's Fastpitch game at Bellwoods we celebrated that we'll soon no longer need a special rule to manage one of the new 🌲 planted in the outfield, in planters - because it is dying. Not just transit projects, but any publicly funded capital project over $5m Roads, buildings, railways, parks. Provincial and municipal. Apparently this is built into procurement processess, but it doesn't happen at a level that makes any positive difference.

Jaywalking is a bullshit thing made up by the auto industry to blame pedestrians for traffic collisions. + other bullshit things. In Toronto, on any non-highway, as long as you are not causing delay & there's no crosswalk nearby, go for it. Ped islands would be illegal to use if it was an offence

Don't give up hope, especially with all the information being leaked over the past 48h. I think it was a major miscalculation by many people & organizations to assume who rides a bike, and why. The negative economic impacts that make it look like a bad business decision is hitting where it matters

Doug Ford doesn’t know about or care about what works or doesn’t work in city-building. He’s fine with hurting the city (and by extension the provincial economy), killing people, wasting public money, and making congestion worse. Lots of face kicking. The bike lanes won't be replaced with a car lane - they'll become parking. That "side street route" (that doesn't exist) will require the removal of on-street parking & traffic calming to slow down motor vehicle traffic. The entire province is paying for it, not Toronto.

I feel bad for the motorists who had to wait while we rode along Danforth for Critical Mass tonight, but they could have just taken side streets.

Many lessons here. Design, accessibility, traffic design. Bike parking could provide delineation? Installing cane detectable unigranite beside a ramped curb within pavers is hilariously bad accessible design. It's like someone read a guideline without understanding it or talking to a cane user

In his speech yesterday, Canada PM Mark Carney seemed to try to explain to the President what a “trade deficit” is. You’re not just giving another country 100s of millions of dollars… You’re buying things from them! That you want!

Another prominent justification for U.S. tariffs has been their claim that, since the United States runs a trade deficit with Canada, we were "ripping them off"
But the United States' narrow merchandise trade deficit only exists because the U.S. buys so much of its energy from us.
Canada fuels American growth: supplying 99% of their natural gas imports, 85% of electricity imports, and 60% of crude oil imports. I don't think they want us to stop sending it.
And the comprehensive U.S.-Canada trade balance, which includes the many services - from finance to entertainment - that we buy from the U.S. shows a persistent American trade surplus.
Most fundamentally, trade is about building mutual strength - creating a relationship that benefits both countries.
For example, Canada is the largest customer for U.S. cars - in fact, we buy more American-built cars than the United Kingdom, Japan, and China combined.

Many are saying that the mechanism to hold a gov't accountable for decisions is to vote. But the residents of these communities engaged in the democratic process & elected a municipal gov't that supported these bike lanes. The local gov't consulted residents, voted & implemented the infrastructure.

Also not a lawyer. But I am an engineer. This decision contradicted itself multiple times, incl the responsibilities of engineers. It ignored data & tells us to design dangerous infrastructure, yet it doesn't assign responsibility for the consequences. It contradicts the obligations of our license.

In Cycle TO's legal challenge, Ontario made this "bike lanes belong on side streets" argument. The Court found this was "unsupported by any evidence from the government that there are feasible or practical alternative routes which would be used by cyclists instead of staying on the main streets."

Streetcar stops are v. complex to retrofit into an urban env. The 3 Ziclas we put in 2025 were hella complex due to the tight tolerances for streetcar ramp deployments. They were the 1st streetcar Ziclas deployed anywhere 🌎 Stops were supposed to be done when the track is replaced, in '29-ish?

The Ford F-series and Silverado are the #1 and #2 top selling large trucks in North America (and on this list, but lower down) - but Dodge drivers do more damage with their vehicles. We know about the design issues - but there has to be some correlation between these statistics and brand marketing?

A resident wanted us to make *their* accessible spot bigger so they could fit their F350 in. I asked permit unit to push back, b/c accessible permits were no longer being given to vehicles that size. Also explained to the resident that that spot was not actually theirs. The city didn't push back.

There are so many issues with the current permit parking situation in Toronto. I was shocked at how inexpensive it was to get a street parking permit when I needed one for the first time after almost 30y of having a parking spot. Mix in the swamp that is the accessible parking permit system.... >>

Other cities need to follow what NYC is doing with e-scooters & e-bikes - but include brick & mortar retailers as well. People reasonably assume that if you can buy something at Costco, Canadian Tire or Walmart in a particular city - it must be legal to use in that city. www.toronto.ca/rideables
