I now fervently believe this. Relatedly, I think celebrating good news and embracing joy are equally radical. You have to remember what you’re fighting for. We cannot sustainably organize around sorrow.

Rainbow capitalism actually is a good thing but it's as a warning light, not as actual social progress; when the rainbow capitalism stops, it's a sign that capital doesn't feel that paying lip service to queers' humanity is currently advantageous

Tumblr screenshot of a post by abbiistabbii that reads:

The Germans really cooked making "Hobbyless behaviour" an insult. It is both devastating, applicable to a wide range of people and behaviours, and doesn't resort to swearing.

Man ranting on the internet about the Superbowl halftime show or complaining that something is "woke"? Hobbyless Behaviour. Girls mocking another girl for not looking right? Hobbyless Behaviour. Mindless vandalism? Hobbyless Behaviour.

It is more powerful than "get a life" or the English "You're Sad" because it gets to the central point of the matter, and that is wonderful. Danke, Deutsch.

Happy Pride Month. If you're a gay man, please remember your power. People often think that gay men are innately fashionable, which means if you wear some stupid shit for long enough, straight people, including homophobes, will copy you and then you can laugh at them.

Reminder that Klingons say TRANS RIGHTS BRING HONOR TO YOUR HOUSE
DS9 scene: Kor, a Klingon, greets Dax as Curzon. Dax corrects him as the host is now in Jadzia, a Trill female. Cor immediately responds, "Jadzia, my beloved old friend" without missing a beat.

Right: Two tweets from 2019: "This Pride Month, never forget that Klingons had trans rights"; "No hostility, no confusion, no clumsy excuse-filled justification, just a quick self-correction and the exact same amount of love and respect before and after. Cis allies: Be like Kor."

Every year for Pride, I repost Hue. I made him to send love and comfort to those who feel Pride isn’t for them because they aren’t out. You matter, you are valid, and it’s ok if you aren’t ready yet. Coming out is not a requirement for being part of this community. Happy Pride 🌈
A rainbow colored box turtle looking nervously out of a drab gray shell. There is text above him that says “It’s OK if you’re not ready yet.”

honestly the only Millennial / Gen Z dividing point that matters to me is this: do you remember how things were pre-9/11? and, crucially, how everyone lost their minds on and after 9/11? If so, you're a millennial or older.

Saying out loud what has been clear for 20+ years — “job creation” is just no longer even a pretend goal for finance-cult capitalists (which is basically all of them). Workers are material to be consumed at varying rates depending on shareholder vibes & market price timing.

Scott McCloud in "Understanding Comics": In all the arts, it's the Surface that people appreciate most easily, like an apple chosen for its shiny skin. The latest "fan favorite" often looks better at a glance than the older artists who had the Ideas and created the Idioms, but were less interested in Surfaces. But often if we bite into that shiny new apple--" [Scott bites the apple which is the stand-in for the metaphor and holds it up to reveal that there is nothing inside the apple's skin] "Hollow. It's a cycle as old as art itself"

1000% this. Every bit of attention and money she gets is used to advocate for real-world harm to people. There's no separating art from artist when they're still alive and using their wealth for ill.

Here's the thing about Harry Potter: the best thing about it was always the community. The shared delight, the communal game of pretend, the "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" aspects of the collective fannish language. And the community around the books is dead. JKR killed that completely.

I don't really think your opinion on Harry Potter has any intrinsic moral valence, but c'mon, you should really not be giving Rowling money or attention if you care at all about trans rights, y'know? She's not an author with bad opinions, she's a full-time political activist who used to write books.
