Hyper financialization and the platform model have severed the tenuous connection between use value and exchange value. Plus the vast majority of designers are employees foremost. Labor power and consumer advocacy need a resurgence to counter.

This is incidentally why, when people on the center or left uncritically and earnestly buy into the disingenuous and performative framing of the right’s construction of “wokism”, they are engaging in a kind of thought-terminating brain rot that hollows out one’s understanding of power.

The underappreciated point here is that taking the messy, contingent nature of scheduling, communication, and navigating social relationships is something that AI people think these tools can do. When in fact it is quite difficult and takes a lot of social skill.

This is true AND it connects to my objections as a UX designer to scheduling as an obvious application of “AI” tech: if the software industry respected the problem as Hanna does, we would have much better tools exercising simple algorithms that do not require “AI” magic

for fucking REAL. the depth of trauma for those undiagnosed with ADHD is real. not just the way we feel like we're constantly failing (because everyone is telling us we are) but not understanding WHY because we have no context to understand other people aren't struggling with the things we are.

There's a good deal that's problematic about Hitchens, but a big reason he was so formidable was that he was trained in a tradition where the ability to articulate your opponent's position, and make several of its first-level arguments in good faith, was prolegomenon for admission, let alone status.

This is how that market was designed to work. In both good and bad ways. Good in that people who use it less or none help fund those who have to use it more. Bad in that many ACA plans still make it too expensive to use them except for catastrophes.

The NY Times has repeatedly used the phrase “to heel” in reference to Trump’s crackdown on universities, implicitly clarifying that Trump goal is to establish dominance. And what exactly constitutes this “woke” ideology in higher education?
During the meeting, Mr. Trump repeatedly complained about his administration’s failure to bring Harvard University in particular to heel. The administration has been unable to hammer out a deal with the nation’s oldest and wealthiest university, a central plank of his broader push against “woke” ideology in higher education.
